HOWZIT! maui growers?

aloha all. been lurking a while and i finally started my first grow . reluctantly went for an autoflower, which has been growing just fine out here in hot dry west maui at low elevation. one on my porch and 2 in my closet. all soil. the oldest is maybe another 2 weeks to a month from harvest. hoping to keep all my growing activities outdoor from here on out tho, and i wanted to know if there were some local growers here with some good genetics? i really dont wanna order seeds online no more. the puamana ohana seeds i got never germinated. and from reading an old thread it looks like that guys a fraud..i thought his website seemed a little fishy.. some weird ass pidgin.. other seeds from overseas reputable places all were fine. any maui braddas (or sisters) on here? i've got some seeds from some guy in haiku who i thought was gonna be a local dude when i contacted him from a craigslist ad...just makes me wonder about the origin..how old can these genetics be if he aint even from here?? the guy sure didnt look local .. but hey no judgement. its not like im hawaiian. just born and raised.. i cant say nothin bad so far..at least the seeds germinated! gonna pop all the ones i got from overseas then look for some local genetics strictly hopefully. im into my health so i am building some beds in lahaina, going to try all organic, hopefully no till. been reading alot on soil biology and korean natural farming and im in the process of making some natural farming inputs. if only i can find time to go bury my rice in the woods..anyway pretty hot and dry in lahaina..lots of watering so im gonna take a shot at some drip irrigation as well. our yard especially is all red dirt. not much shade..stuff dries out real quick i hardly even smoke anymore though. last bag i got was giving me some weird anxiety. so i decided to cut out the middle man. i think the guy was getting it off the dark web and his grower either harvested early while it still had some bug killer or some shit on the bud..who knows maybe im just getting to old for the strong shit..but it looked like all clear trichomes under my loupe. any mauians or neighbor islanders on here?

If you are looking for real Hawaiian genetics, that can be tough. I'm not convinced any pure strains remain outside of certain families that don't want the genetics to spread. There is one guy around who sells Molokai Frost, you can find his seed site here or on other cannabis forums if you search for it. Ace has been working on their New Caledonia strain for years and finally released it a few months ago-I bought a pack of seeds right away but haven't germed them yet, but you should definitely check those out if you're looking for an old time Pacific Island sativa. You're in a great spot to grow out tropical sativas in general, so you should check out some other Ace strains while you're at it.

Thank you! Not looking specifically for Hawaiian genetics, I guess. but it would be awesome . Mostly any equatorial landraces that would thrive on the 12/12 we have here. Ggs claims to have the original Molokai frost so I emailed them.

I haven’t even been smoking lately but I can’t wait to try my own flowers. Spending all my time n money to get this garden started now that I have space . So fun to learn about this plant and the biology of soil in general. KNF is so cool. I still have no plan or space for the drying but I’m just gonna see when I get there and hopefully have a system down a little better by the next run

Howzit. I'm originally from Kihei, but I left for the military and havent been back in 7 years sadly. Definitely want to get some Hawaiian stains, but not sure if they exist anymore like @Rurumo said. There was a seed bank I found on Molokai recently that said they are preserving hawaiian strains, but It said they aren't shipping now.

right on! what branch? i did a 6 year contract in the marines as a LAV driver in north carolina. its been bout 8 years since. i dont miss it at all, except for the people ive met there. island is busier than ever, honestly i don't enjoy it. people suck at driving here. If i could move to big island i would. surfing is a must so i dont think i could ever leave the islands unless it was to somewhere with a similar water temperature..i hate wetsuits

Marines as well. I got stationed at 29 Palms for 6 years, terrible place. My daughter is always asking to go back, and I had to tell her the other day that I dint want to go because how different it is compared to when we left. And I dont want all my good memories of home ruined by being overpopulated now

Nirvana has a Hawaiian Maui Waui. I don't know how authentic it is. They claim it's an IBL. I've grown it indoors and thought it was very good.

Like @Rurumo has said, ACE has some good stuff. You should give them a look. I wish I could grow some of their stuff outdoors. It gets challenging growing some of the sativa's I like indoors in a 4 x 4 tent. Plants that get 12 ft tall can get ornery when confined to small spaces.

You want hawaiian genetics Good Gear Seeds are the ones to get beans from

right on..good gear just told me they got molokai frost and also suggested puna black tar which is a relative of golden voice (which i just read about) sounds good to me! will order some of those soon.

does anyone have experience growing in red dirt? my yard is dry red dirt. broken cinderblocks from the inlaws old wall being knocked down. so much space being wasted and they dont wanna plant grass. so im gonna slowly put in some groundcovers that can handle this rocky, barren dirt. theres water spinach growing wild that seems to be thriving in some spots. heard its edible too maybe ill try to propagate it and get it goin everywhere.

rah heard lots of shitty things bout 29 stumps..tweekerville. and true that..some days i get so frustrated here. busy island that caters mostly to tourists and rich transplants, and not locals. the population is expanding faster than the infrastructure is and to me it seems like a bubble waiting to pop. we have pipelines in kaanapali that pump shit out into the ocean. 'accidental' sewage overflows multiple times a year.. how is that even allowed.. almost seems like the government is deliberately trying to destroy our source of food and make us dependent on imports.. still a beautiful place to the naked eye but the more you search the more bad things you learn. covid lockdown was like a dream..no one out anywhere..uncrowded beaches.no cars on the road. what i imagine old hawai'i was like .. we have so many microclimates across the islands..we can basically grow anything and have the most abundant and some of the cleanest natural freshwater available to humans fromthe west maui mountains. we dont need to depend on tourism..all that does is kill the land. but i digress..i work at a hotel myself. hopefully i can get out of that industry soon

No organic matter just clay mud.

you could do a 3 part soilless mix
-peat moss
-aeration (perlite / vermiculite / small black cinders)
-compost

I really suggest growing in pots until you are completely sure your soil has a lot of organic matter & its amended and ready. not cooking.

if you are at least able to control veg with light then you will probably be ok, but even if not you will just have smaller plants

this area I'm growing fava beans as a cover crop. then mix into soil and add compost

Thanks!I have coots mix in garden beds already, one for veggies and one for buds. This will be my first run in those beds and attempting notill . Gonna build some more beds as soon as I have time . I only started my compost pile a few months ago when I moved in. There’s lots of work to be done in this yard. But we have lots of space. Moving down to on call at my hotel Job so hopefully I’ll have more time after that. Just no medical insurance oh well i feel pretty healthy. Also have a big pile of organic topsoil/ compost/ cinder mix delivered a month ago. Bout a yard and a half. Been sitting under a tarp so I gotta start using it soon. I mixed that with peat and black cinder to make my coots mix. Gonnastart spreading that out and mulching to try to get some life back in the soil but we are on a slope, so I need toalso make some retaining walls I think. I got a worm bin as well but they are slow eaters

Where you located at man?? Cool garden . I just ordered the Molokai frost and puna black tar. We have some sweet potatoes as well but only eat the leaves n let it grow. What’s in the bed on the right?

the bed on the right is a 4x4 square foot gardening bed & right now it has poamoho pole bean, waialua chili pepper, corn, 3 different determinate tomato, and zucchini.

in another planter I try to run greens like lettuce & spinach

I'm on Oahu I grew up here & big island.

right on you doing the coots mix sounds like you are on the right track!
