That's the great thing about these forums. When I started growing, nobody talked. Bro science was rampant and yea we used to wear sunglasses and a hood to the grow shop in fear the cops were on the other side of the road taking our photos and following us home. Lol. Now we can openly share our knowledge and gain wisdom from all sides of the earth without the fear of 'the man'. Other people's pov, or ideas can change the way you think about something and of coarse knowledge is power!
Broscience is still rampant.

Just saying

I’m not picking a side here. I’m just going to tell my story. Here’s what happened after installing this Vivosun bulb. BC8A0491-8FF3-40DA-8D55-9A2D667962D5.jpegF2094203-37D2-4227-B93A-22667841D7CA.jpeg

The bulb exploded. It didn’t even make it all the way through one grow.

Could it have been the ballast? Maybe. But the thing was fine for two years. Of which I had autos growing and the bulb was on 24 hours for about a year.

I read it was cheaper to change the bulb every grow. So I bought those so I could afford a new one every grow. I regret my mistake

I've heard of vivosun bulbs bursting etc. Prob is when they cheap out on the QC in the glass. That shit is important... A small scratch or weak spot in the glass and boom.
Not to say other bulbs won't burst I just think the ratio is far greater with cheaper bulbs
Considering the fact your house insurance won't pay if you have a grow (look it up) I don't like to fuck with fate.

I typically equate more money with more quality. I don’t buy the most expensive but I try and find balance. Cheap was suggested from a “high ranking” former member on this site. So I went with it.

I'm going on 4 years using the Vivosun bulbs and ballast. I've had bulbs go out after less than 2 grows but I've had the same thing happen with more expensive bulbs. It happens but it's rare. I've never had anything burn up.

I've used many different bulbs over the years. I'm using the Vivosun bulbs now because they have a good spectrum and they grow good plants.

That's just my experience. Others may be different.

I've used other bulbs.

You get what you pay for. I've personally got the best quality from Philips & Eye Hortilux "Super HPS" bulbs.

I run 1000w Double-Ended HPS though so idk how well my opinion will help you.

I've been using a vivosun or ipower digital ballast for a couple yrs and its working fine.

About the spectrum....they're from china, I wouldn't necessarily believe any descriptive or tech specs they give.

And quality control of the chicom bulbs....pfft. they manufacture them, ship them across the earth, ship from dock to door for $15...? I don't think they spend much on R&D and are assuredly made from the bare minimum, lowest grade materials available.

Basically the chicoms don't print it on the label when they poison dog food or use lead paint on children's toys. I even read about youth makeup marketed towards teens that was 10% asbestos. The Chinese have no regard for health and safety.

Vivosun/ipower = harbor freight ratchet $5

Premium bulbs = snap on $200 ratchet

Both can turn a bolt but there's indisputable difference in quality and materials.

When I ran a 400 HPS, I ended up running standard HPS, but always Philips or Sylvania or GE, cheap enough to change often. Very little crop difference between those and the high price spread.

I have noticed some bulbs have enhanced far red and some have more yellow green or blue. Imo I agee they're all very similiar but spending the extra 40-50 is woth it for me simply because I'm not trying to make money I'm trying to figure out how I can grow the absolute best weed for myself regardless of cost. Then as thw years go on figure out what I need and what I dont
