HPS & CFL??? Both? How, Why, Huh?

Hi,

Can someone shine a light on this style of growing.... literally

I have read growers will use their HPS as well as some CFL's while growing. I am not talking about using them both at the same time.

I read their is a few minute delay between switching from HPS to the CFL's.

What is this? Why do growers do it? How does it help?

Also, can you describe how the technique is done?

I searched for this style of growing and cant find anything. Give me the style term & I'll research it.

Thanks!

honestly man, some people turn this into rocket science and brain surgery. put as much light as you have during flowering and call it a day. Forget about this delay and HPS and CFL crap. If you have both of them, light those babies up 12/12 and get it over with.

I use both at the same time from young plant to mature ones. HPS atop and fluorescents side lighting. I even focus CFL bowl reflectors on top colas a couple inches away under the HPS. What delay and why? Too much monkey business. Like the other poster said - KISS!

Thanks for the heads up.

HPS = 10 gauge shotgun
CFL = .22 pistol

Except in special circumstances, if you are using an HPS, you got plenty of light power for ripening mj buds

They go great together and you can use the CFL's to light up your lower buds/branches to increase your yield. I swear by it, if your flowering under HPS put a couple sufficient (50 watt+) CFL's around the base of your plants and you'll notice a significant difference in 2-3 days... unless you're vegging for shorter times/shorter plants then you wouldn't need that coverage. Fluorescent light isn't much for flowering but it can help save $$ in the vegetative cycle... then, like everybody else says: flip to 12/12 and light up everything you got.

its really about the light spectrum being given to the plants. HPS is a very narrow spectrum, the theory being give the plant more of the light photons to work with as it will utilize them for growth.
kinda like you can live off pizza, but if you do, you may want to consider taking a multivitamin also...

My plants are bushy as fuk!

Here is a pic.

Would CFL under the plants help or not really?
