HPS Problems

Why do my plants always stunt or burn when I put them under my HPS? I've never been able to get something growing under it without it dying. I'm running a 400w HPS with a 430w Sun Agro bulb a little more than a foot above the plants. Any tips would be really cool :-)

...aircooled hood might help, 1 ft is about right for a 400 HPS. How big are your plants? You should start them under fluros, imo.

throw us a bone, give us a bit of information, room size, temp, growing medium, reflector? how old is your plants?

The room has to be too hot.I started my first grow under a 400 hps and had no problems.I had it as close as 6 inches with good venting.

I'm sorry I didnt include pictures, I'll take a few in a bit. My cuts are about a month old, nerly 9 inches tall, I don't have a cooler but there is a fan on the floor which keeps the air moving as well as A/C that keeps the room under 79*F. I start them under CFLs and the genetics are mostly SFV OG and Larry OG. Idk how big the room size is, but they are in 1 closet (sliding doors). They are in an aeroponic unit i built from scratch (they always have enough water). Oh and I took the reflector off the HPS cuz it was cheap and falling onto the light, which is a fire hazard :-)
