INMO they should not be nearly as expensive as they are. I purchased a 50" led 540watt light bar for my truck, 6000k I'm not sure how many lumens but I cant look at it without seeing spots like my hps. Now this thing is only 12 volt and cost 58.00 shipped to the door. There is no reason an affordable led fixture cant be built. If it was even in cost would the led be the way to go? Shit if they had a 2200k led bar I might just try using one. Just for the recort I never used anything beside metal halide and HPS. Just had to downsize from a 4x8 area to a 4x4 but have tones of 5 foot attic space. I never grew that short but I suppose I could if I used LED

hey everyone, this is a topic i'm interested in. i've been using two 600w hps but summer time heat kills me with cooling the room. i've got a very thin wallet atm so need to go as cheap as i can and thinking about trying a couple of the CrxSunny brand sold on amazon. they call them 1200 watt cob lights, but of course they only use about 270 watts. roughly 45 watts per cob. and only $166 per unit with a 3 year warranty, if they grow worth a poop i don't see how that can't be a good deal. just throwing that out there to see if anyone agrees or disagrees.

dont get those crappy amazon led's and run em stock. if you know what you're looking for, you can use them for a base, switch out the cobs for better ones and then you're set. or just go complete DIY cob setup

I would battle on with your HPS until your wallet can stretch to some quality lights. A lot of LEDs are not as efficient as HPS, cheap fixtures are full of cheap parts and cheap parts wont be worth changing to. Save up for something from Timbergrowlights and swap out one light at a time with something which will help bring your heat down. Or look into DIY for a cheaper build, its not as hard as one might think it is.
I'm still in veg so I cant give a true account of my COBs yet but Ive seen some great results from lots of folks on here.

yep, that's good advice. thank you. first thing i need to do is update my window ac, i might be able to take apart and service the one i have but it's about ten years old so it's not as efficient as newer ones.
and then look into doing a diy build. should be able to do something very similar to what timber grow does for considerably less, i hope. seems pretty wild that newest generation of cob's put out over 150 lm/watt.

With my first COB run i thought i was burning my plants too.

But what really happened was nute deficiency. The cobs intensity had the plants wanting way more nutes, especially cal/mag.

I have 250ppm water. Lots of cal/mag in it and under hps i never had to supplement. With the cobs i had to start... and i improved my second run, but still didnt supplment enough.

For example, the strain i run now under hps was nute sensitive and i was doing about 900ppm. More than that would cause nute burn. Under cobs i took this strain to 1400ppm no probs.

More light definitely requires more nutes. It's been cold here at night so I fired up three lamps for the extra heat. (2x400w MH + 1x600w HPS)
Now all of my plants are showing mag deficiency, which is common for healthy plants.

You say that and my ppm were up to 2100 with no problem using cree cobs no burn at all I don't like going that high but it seems like my girls drink a lot of water first cause my ppms go up after a few days pH is good so it can't be lockout can it ?

Im not sure. I doubt it. But... ive only done two runs with the cobs...still learning and dialling in.

Id go with 1000 watt DE sir. You'll never do anything different. Its like that saying about something black you will never go back, I forget the saying though.
