Humidity Control Issue

I am having a hard time controling the humidity inside my grow hut. The grow hut itself is 4Wx11Lx8H inside a bigger room thats about 500sqft located in my basement. I went out and purchase a cool misting humidifer for a medium size room and it is not increasing the humidity at all. At this time the room temp varies from 75-78 degrees and the humidity will not go above 25%. Should I go out and buy a humidifer for the other room, or should I just buy a bigger one??? Please Please Help!!!!

What type of venting are you using for the hut? If your basement is like mine, you have dry, cool winter air down there. My hot air furnace is down there as well so the room humidity is really low. If you have the humidifier in the hut and are exchanging the air in the box every couple of minutes you are sending the humidity back into the basement.

This is very true however with VPD's (vapour pressure defecits) the pressure exerted onto the leaves will cause problems such as leaf roll etc. With really low Humidity your plants also have a lower tolerance to Nutes which usually manifests itself in Nuteburn or deficiencies. Really low RH will cause problems with transpiration rates and can create a further abundance of problems.

Very good answer! The OP could be exhausting his room too much to keep the humidity up.


Original Poster please give some specifics about your setup so that we can try and pinpoint why your RH is not rising.

We will need ambient room conditions too. Temp and RH of the basement.

I'm not sure if you are in your veggie state or flower, but The water in an open face container will bring your humidity up if you are in the grow state. But dont use the water method if you are flowering. The moisture will cause you more problems than you are willing to take on. Mold and mildew will form in and on the buds, and the taste is nasty. For the flowering humidity levels, you can recheck your CFM exchange and make sure you are exchanging enough air, but just pull enough to keep from having stale air in the room. there are fomulas on the internet that give you the correct Lighting, temp, humidity, and many other formulas to correct the problem. The slowing of exchanged air will hold more moisture in the room. If you can afford it, there are numerous types and styles of humidifiers on EBAY. Also you said something in the effect of the temperatures dropping at night or whenever the lights are out. A small therostatical heater can be put in the room and set on a low temp, just to where the temp will not drop under 60 degrees. Any lower temperature could be detrimental to the plants in a long period of time. If you do a little research on Google, you can just about find the solution to most of your growing problems.
