Hydroponics help?

so i have decided to make a hydrosystem, my man source is wally world, (im growing 2-3 plants) so i was gonna get two rubbermaid containers, do a doublestack system using the lower container for my resevoir, inside is a long airstone. and a water pump, i need help with a good design on what to use for the drain and overflow. which then the pump, pumps out enough water to sumberge half of the root pod ( only word i can think of) the root strainer lookin thing hahahaha lol. good times. then the pump shuts off allowing the water to go back through the pump and back to the resevoir. any expert advice and knowlegde of sizes of fittings or containers or anything.

I would just keep it simple "Bubble Ponics"
1-plastic tote (what ever size you think you need)
1-lid for the plastic tote

as for the air stone I would buy the small cylinder type
there cheaper and they make more bubbles.
