I am going to detox tomorrow...

I wish you nothing but the best. I'm a reformed heroin addict myself. So few people realize just how bad or addicting alcohol is/can be. An alcoholic who tries to quit without proper medical assistance could very well die. It's quite serious.

what do you plan to do after detox...have you considered rehab? or outpatient help?
No insurance, and I grow tons of dank,,, half-way house-no way... probably the logical thing for me to do is make AA meetings, eat some edibles a hour before and drink tons of coffee... eat healtier and get a gym membership and start playing basketball again.. I use to be great baller on the court.. cigs jacked my lungs up. I plan on stopping smoking to... i drink one beer, then smoke 1 cig then repeat. I can not quit cigs without quitting drinking

I had a counselor tell me that he was able to quite smoking more easily just by changing the way he took his coffee. He always took his coffee a certain way, and would chain smoke while drinking coffee.

Environment and your response to it really is often key. People tend to exhibit different behaviors depending on the environment they are in. For example, even painting, moving around or getting new furniture along with practicing a new routine can really help prevent a person from falling back into their old habits.

completely understandable there should be some free things in your area.
I know that the rate of relapse is much higher if you do not continue maintenance afterwords, you need someone or support groups in order to help you obtain towards your goals

I found exercise to be very helpful coming off the morphine...sweat that shit out....
It is helpful, but for a different reason. A lot of people share the misconception that getting over withdrawal is about sweating it out or excreting drug residues. Really, the great majority of drugs like morphine are excreted relatively quickly. Most of the drug is gone after just 24 hours. Trace amounts of inactive metabolites have no pharmacological effect (don't cross into the brain).

The problem is that the drug has physically caused changes in brain chemistry. In the case of opioids, the brain reduces or stops making endogenous opioid ligands (endorphins, endomorphins, enkephalins) which are the substances that naturally bind to the various opioid receptors in your brain. Other changes including to the receptor sites themselves occur to an extent. Without endogenous opioids, and with your brain re-wired to function on the foreign substance (which you're not giving it), you really feel like shit until your brain learns how to respond and regulate itself on it's own again.

A typical response to exercise is a release of endogenous opioid-like or other reward-enforcing substances in the brain (dopamine).

There is some exciting new research on addiction and gene expression which can hopefully result in more effective treatments at some point in the future.

I am so PROUD of you man! I DO know that you have to have a plan once you're out of detox and it sounds like you do. This is CRUCIAL for changing any habit/lifestyle: to replace the old habit(s) with new ones. Otherwise it's too easy to go back to what you are familiar with.

A good, healthy eating/exercise plan will heal your body faster and help with the detoxing. GET A BUDDY. Someone to hold you accountable to keep fit. You can do it. I know it will be hard at first but so worth it. Stay strong. We're pulling for you.
