I Need Help With My Babies..

Hey all,

I am attempting to grow two plants (Blackberry strain) and need some advice on how to proceed. The first plant is growing well and was just transplanted to a bigger pot, and my second plant has been ripped at the stem and therefore has not been transplanted. Both of them are in their 5th week.

My first question is with regards to the healthy plant. When should I start using nutrients and what ratio would be suitable for a plant in its vegetative stage? I have used Miracle Grow soil (0.14/0.14/0.14) which I have been told releases its own nutrients at different times (I know Miracle Grow is not ideal but its too late to change the soil). Can/should I still use nutrients and more importantly, is it still possible to produce a substantial yield?

In regards to my second plant (broken stem), is it possible for it to heal itself? I have put a straw around the stem in an attempt to keep it up right but I'm not sure if this is enough. I can't put tape around it because the stem is still too small/fragile.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

No nutes for at least 3 or 4 weeks, You need to bring your light down or raise those girls up. They are way streched out.
With a stem that thin time will only tell. you could use scotch tape and then tie back to strw. Saying you just bent it too far and it did not break in half. If you broke it in half well..........

When you go to repalnt from cup you may want to consider covering some of that stem. I had to do it on one of mine because it corck screwed just before breaking soil and fell over, It will grow roots from the coverd section of the stem.

well 4 weeks and 1 day from the day I planted the seeds. Right now I'm just using a regular CFL bulb you would find in your house. I don't want to using a higher wattage bulb cause I don't want to end up burning them.

For another 3-4 weeks? And after that will adding nutrients be ok even though I used Miracle Grow?

I had them just sitting in a room under a light before the box was set up which is why their stretched so much. Since then I have moved them into a box with one standard CFL about 10 inches away. I transplanted one of them and covered the stem with soil to prop it up but can't really do that for the other one yet..

Im not sure how your going to deal with all that strech, You need the cfl way closer than 10 inches. More like 3 or 4 inches. It will not burn unless touchingng the plant directly, (Promise) Might even considder going to a bigger pot and covering more of your stem and get a fan on it. Start it on low and a distance away so you don't break this one too. BUt honestly if you only have that much growth in a month, Start over, Keep the lamp close and temps below 85 but below 80 is ideal. No nutes and water once a week or so and ditch MG if you can but it will work my very first grow years back was in mg. It grew but i faught nute problems the entire grow. Infact I almost tried MG again but was infested with gnats, so I returned it and bought fox farms ocean from a grow store and funny but its the same price. Good Luck

Thanks for the links...I moved the light down to about 3 inches so hopefully that will make a difference. I think I'm also going to plant another seed and start again. Any suggestions on what type of soil I can use this time? Something easy to find?

Do you have a grow store in your city? If so stop in and say hi. They will likley be more than willing to help. If your not in a cannabis friendly area than do some research. here is a free lead.

Different strains will react differently depending on the brand of soil.
For instance, Blueberry (indica) is a strain that does not require alot of nutrients, so nuteburn will be easier than a 100% sativa, like durban poison.
Therefore, someone who grew a sativa with miracle grow, may have success, while Blueberry will not.

In my experience, I have tried many many soils from Homedepot. I dont like any of them.
I grew Early Misty in Scotts premium soil and it turned out ok.
Miracle Grow Organic (and it must be the organic, not time release or moisture control) is the best in my awesome opinion. No big chunks, slightly acidic ph, and low content of nutrients.

That was a long time ago though... Now I am a big supporter of Fox Farm. I know its expensive, but trust me, its worth it. Good Luck
