I recently had a kidney stent placed in for two weeks!

Is it ok to medicate with cannabis even though I just had a stent put in my kidney? I’m 33 years old healthy but only one kidney. I had to have it placed to remove my first ever very small kidney stone. The stent comes out in two weeks. Any advice would give me peace of mind!

If you are on a transplant list use of cannabis may affect your status!
.

Generally yes after a J stent (urology), no after a cardiac stent, no in cases of cardiac and pulmonary disorders but if you need pain relief opiates are always better for somatic pain and cannabis is superior with neuropathic pain.

The above is a gross generality and over simplification and may not apply to you specifically. Therefore the safest path for you is to ask your own nephrologist/urologist who placed your stent or follows you. I hope that helps.

Being that I’m in Texas I’m pretty sure they we’ll want me taking the pain meds but I refuse to take them. They make my anxiety so much worse. Yeah it was just a stent put in for 2 weeks to help clear my one kidney I was born with. This was the first time ever to have any complications or kidney stone in my 33 years. Just really sucks there isn’t more studies focused on the interactions between cannabis and kidneys.

I can only speak from personal experience, and I had renal failure from blood pressure issues. I did about 5 years of dialysis and was working with a great transplant team. I was straight with them about my cannabis use, and that it was integral to my ability to function properly. The head doctor smiled, shook my hand and said, Don't worry about that, you'll be fine, just try not to bring that up in front of my students.
Now, whenever I see any of my doctors, as they check me out, they always comment about how clear my lungs sound!
I gave up booze and tobacco, but nobody's takin' my herb! Good luck.
