so i have a problem with buying dirt and throwing it out after one grow. So. I have started to use my dirt agian amended with some goodies.
I usually use ffof striaght out of the bag with great results.

I added about 1/3-1/4 new ff dirt.
about 1/2 perlite after that. then placed the dirt in my 5gals that i will be using next week. Then added about 10 tbs of bone meal(3-15-?) and bat guano(o-5-0), 2 cups worm castings(1-0-0) to each bucket. I watered them a small amount, mixed and now it sits till i need it.

Post up your soil remix formula or comment on mine.

thx.

all you have to do is thouroughly flush your soil several times then it will be safe to reuse. rinsing will rid it of all the former salts making it pure again. when money runs tight you gotta reuse:mrgreen:

whats the best way to remove the old roots? I was thinking maybe just hold the stem and shake all the soil off into a box or w/e.. i also thought about putting the whole root/soil mass in water untill the roots and plant come away clean leaving all the soil in the water then straining all the water leaving just soil.. I would think the biggest problem w/ reusing soil iwould be the old roots wouldnt it? I will def be reusing soil as FF soil is about 40.00 for 1 bag here.. Plus im poor lol.

so no need to remove the old roots even if your immediately reusing the soil?

the main root ball yes, stir the old dirt up to mix the roots around, let the soil dry, and then stir. also, dont for get to flush the shit out of the old soil to rid it of toxins, then let it dry again after a good flush. give the dry soil a extremly light dose of nutes, cus soil has some nutes in it naturally, and by flushing, your removin all the benificial nutes/salts.

When I start growing I will be reusing the soil after the plant is finished since its more of a waist to get new dirt every time. Maybe after 5 to 10 uses of the same soil I'd get new soil

if you use a hygozyme or sensi zyme it will break down the old roots and disolve them for nutes for the plant to uptake.
if you use this stuff you wont have as much root system to remove from your dirt.it becomes compost for the plant and little beasties to eat on and the plant.if you dont flush your dirt GOOD with a salt removal solution you will get salt build up in the soil and burn your plants dead.

i re use soil just watch the PH it will rise the more you use it that is because of the old roots . bring the PH back down with lime or if like me use hydro nutes on soil this will buffer
the soil ph for you. the soil in these pots have been usesd for over 4 grows

ps
if your plants become sick then throw the old soil out and start again with fresh soil and bleech the pots be for reusing.
