I spent a long time researching strains, can you help me choose two?

Hi everyone,

I've spent quite a number of hours finding good breeders, and what seem to be good strain choices. The list below is from what seems through my research, to be established seed breeders. I might have missed some though!

Ideally I would grow 4 plants (1 super high thc, 1 high thc, 1 medium/with high cbd, 1 high cbd) to have a broad spectrum to help me medically. However, I will likely only be able to grow two. In this case i will probably start with a super high or very high thc, and a medium/low thc high cbd - to get the best of both. I'm growing indoors - ideally a smallish grow, 70cmx100cm or so. I have chronic ongoing pain (my main issue), I also have depression and anxiety and am hoping herb might also help with these. I knew someone many years ago who grew some at home in soil, and it was so amazing that it got rid of my aches etc, and he said it was very doable to grow your own at home.

So here is the list!

I really have tried to put some thought in to this list and write up some notes.

For me the ones that stand out are:

Extra High THC
o Dutch Passion Auto lemon Kix - it says it is easier to grow, with a big yield (but might be too tall for 1.6-1.8m box?)
o RQS - Hulkberry auto - seems interesting too
High THC
o Dutch Passion - Auto Night queen - seems very popular
o Dutch Passion - Bubba Island Kush
Medium THC
o Dutch Passion - CBD Skunk Haze - high cbd
o Dutch Passion - Auto Blueberry (I have heard blueberry is epic and I am yet to try it)
o RQS - Euphoria - high yield - high cbd
o HSO - Blue Dream Auto - have heard blue dream is very nice

Low THC/High CBD
o RQS - Tatanka Pure - relaxing high cbd
o HSO - Blue Dream CBD - Very high yield and very high cbd and decent thc

I read that Dutch Passion Shaman is awesome, but might be a bit of a fight to make it fit, it is also not auto, so would have to be a future grow.

What ones would you pick? Are there any you would recommend?

These are mostly auto flowers as I was recommended to grow AFs as a noobie, but my other research of strains that are non AF are below (all be it less researched!)
  • Grandaddy purple - not sure which breeder
  • HSO - Blue Dream - heard very good things
  • Girl Scout Cookies - I don't know what breeder is best for this but heard it is amazing
  • Bubblegum Kush - is bulldog seeds the right breeder?
  • jilybean - not sure which breeder
  • Royal Queen Seeds -critical kush
  • Dark horse genetics - Bruce Banner BX 2.0
Are there any others I have missed? Any help would be really appreciated, thank you

If this is your first grow I wouldn't worry too much about which strains to grow. You are going to run into issues (everyone does) and may not end up with anything your first grow.

I think autos are a bit harder than regular seeds because everything happens quickly so it is harder to fix when there is an issue. Personally I'd recommend some inexpensive regular seeds for your first grow and treat it as a learnng experience. Then on your second or third grow come back to your list and choose.

Oh, and I think you should choose for yourself. Everyone is different. You may hate a strain that everyone else thinks is great. Part of what makes growing fun is being able to explore. Plan 3 or 4 grows out and collect seeds for those grows. I'm in the middle of flower in my second grow (5 strains in a 2.5'x2.5' tent) and I've got my next two grows planned. :)

Agree with the others, you can't control the size of an auto, or the timing of an auto and the crop is always disappointing.
Photo's you choose the final size, large or small ...... up to you.

Cut a Critical Orange Punch photo earlier this week maybe 2oz..
Good crop, easy to grow and very frosty.picture_2020_6_5_16_16_18_348.jpg

Also cut an Amnesia auto ....... around 1oz an OK result, and a White Widow auto ...... 1/2oz very disappointing.

Don't drive yourself crazy reading descriptions. Breeders and sellers often lie about finishing times, potentcy and yield. Additionally, given all the different phenotypes within each line, the chance of you ending up with something identical to the written description is almost zero.

Buy something that sounds interesting and grow it. You will learn so much more from growing, watching, harvesting and consuming than you will from the BS on seed sellers' websites.

Yup I've never seen such a detailed writeup on which seeds to buy, can you send me the bar charts, pie charts and venn diagrams, and then I may be able to assist you on your mission.

I appreciate that the OP put in time and effort. I won't bother responding to lazy newbs who want to be spoonfed. Why should I do any work on their behalf if they won't even bother to put in work themselves?

I'd rather see someone overthinking than underthinking any day of the week.

Well I was more concerned that overthinking can destroy a grow, but it's all in jest

I was involved in a grow about 10 years ago (trainwreck strain). It all went ok, and i got to learn the importance of consistency, ph levels, and not over doing nutes/water/anything. But, I have forgotten so much since then, so i do agree with keeping it simple and learning from it.
Good luck with your grows! what strains have you chosen?

Yes i definitely assumed bs on their sites, which is why i tried to collate some info, and link it with a few things i had read (while trying to keep to breeders i had read good reviews on). And also why im asking here to see what's a good direction to go.

I was actually planning an animated powerpoint with several graphs :P.

I know lots of people on forums tend to ask to be told what to do without doing any research themselves first, and waiting for spoon feeding like you say, which is one of the reasons i tried to put effort in to researching before asking here.

What I've got so far from this thread, is to avoid AF's to gain more control over vegging/yield. And that master kush might be a good move.

Feel free to throw in any strains I should consider! What strains make you feel the best?

Thanks everyone

I would suggest you expand your criteria beyond THC levels (re high, medium and low THC strains in OP).

The more variety you experience, the more you will begin to understand all the other variables that make up the effect you get from cannabis. Given your numerous symptoms you wish to treat, look at sativas vs indicas. While the traditional sativa/indica distinction is being disputed by research, it is still a decent starting point for exploring the more sedating(indica) strains vs the more energetic and uplifting ones(sativa).

I remember reading smoke reports when I was just beginning to grow. They sounded like a cross between nonsense, magic, and pompous ramblings. As you get more experience though, you become aware of so many subtle and wonderful variations that your previous idea of "smoking some weed and getting stoned" seems impossibly naive.

Best of luck in your journey. :)

I love the effort. Thats me thinking out loud.

I see your passion and im happy to help. Im a pro with strain selection (in my own mind lol).

What you will discover imo is thc is overrated. Not overrated as if it doesnt matter...overrated as in, i can give you 5 20%+ strains that SUCK and also 5 15% strains you might not be able to handle.

The difference between mediocre good and great ia highly subjective and based upon YOU!

WHAT do you want to feel? How long each day do you want to feel it. Are you in physical or mental pain in need of help? Do you have energy problems? Nausea? What you want to feel is how we guide you to strains.

For example, like you i want high thc, but that is just a culling criteria. I can find my feels and thc levels together in great strains.

Euphoria
Energy
Calmness
Pain relief
Sedated
Stoney
Heady rush feel
Couch lock
Creative
Pillowy cushy body feel
Clean the house inspirational energy
Racy out of control mental effects
Forget things stupid silly

Tell me what you want to feel i can fill in the rest....

Have you had delicious tasting strains? Does that matter? Etc

WHAT do you want to feel? Euphoria/happiness/relaxeness would be good How long each day do you want to feel it. I would take it once or twice a week, so long lasting would be good. Are you in physical or mental pain in need of help? Primarily physical pain, but I also have depression/anxiety Do you have energy problems? Yes, I am often tired, but, it is really a secondary issue rather than a main one Nausea? No, I'm good on that front What you want to feel is how we guide you to strains.

Euphoria - one of the strains definitely
Energy - I would enjoy more energy but not sure it is a priority, but, I would definitely enjoy trying something like that in the future
Calmness - Yes this would be ace
Pain relief - Again, would be great
Sedated - not so bothered about sedated
Stoney - neither here nor there
Heady rush feel - it would be nice to experiment with something like this -
Couch lock - not too fussed about this
Creative - Yes, it would be great to have something like this, not a priority but could grow it this grow or next grow
Pillowy cushy body feel - sounds good with pain relief!
Clean the house inspirational energy - sure! would link well with energy and creativity
Racy out of control mental effects - what kind of things? it sounds fun to experiment with though
Forget things stupid silly - not really bothered about this

Tell me what you want to feel i can fill in the rest....

I haven't, and it's not a priority, I would be aiming to make tinctures/oils out of this. But would be nice to smoke a delicious one at some point
Thank you!
I have tried to mull over the list above and added my bits in bold, thanks again!

Ok for thc strains, I would suggest OG Kush, in one of its many delicious forms, blueberry, as true a version as you can find, and Cindarella99, in any hybrid form.
