I'm back! :D Well maybe... Haven't done any growing since about 2016. Spent a lot of time on here when I was. Just wondering what's changed in the technology since then? Planning on reading through the forum but if there's any "newer" methods I might not know about or new tech on the scene give me a heads up. LED was getting real big when I took a break. LED the way to go now or is HID still king for yields? Appreciate any info you guys got and hope to see some old faces pop in! :)

I was out of it for a few years and LED had come a long way. I used to grow with MH/HPS, the first LED I tried was ca 2010, and it was entirely disappointing. Now, I see 4x4 tents putting out 2lbs on a 640w bar-style fixture.

The only thing I miss from HID is the vented hoods. That would really help control temps. With a 640w LED, you're still putting 640w of heat into the tent, but there's no vented hood, so you've got to have your tent venting the hot air out instead of having the light on an isolated flow.

There are plenty of threads on here showing what people can pull with LED's. Take a look at @bk78 Shit Show thread. He's got his setup dialed in right, pulling some nice looking flower.

Good luck! Peace:peace:

Remote mount the driver outside the tent if you want it cooler.

That can improve the situation, but I really liked vented hoods on HID's. That's really the only thing I miss about them. Remote mounting the driver still doesn't control the heat as well as vented hood IMHO.

Never used a vented hood myself.

I loved the vented hoods and that's what I'll use again if I go HID. I'm sure you could always put an LED panel in a vented hood if the panel is small enough and the hood large enough. But I'm sure you'd loose some valuable lumens through the glass. I know lumen output on the LEDs was an issue before I took a break.

I just took a look. Definitely looks awesome. Those LED panels he's using are badass. Not cheap either though!

Check the seller medicgrow on here. Looks like they have pretty good deals.

Also, check that thread I mentioned above. He uses Shenzhen Meijiu bar-style lights at 640w each. One of those is perfect for 4x4. They are on Alibaba.

The shit show thread?
He said the lights were Gavita Pro 1700e lights I believe. I looked them up and they're $1,200 a piece.
