Hmm, learn something new every day.Been a farmer/rancher all my life, I had all ways pruned for better fruit. By what I read was those tomato's lower on the plant would be sweeter/ better.

@srh88 them popcorn nugs you get even if decent are pointless, firstly you will get lots of bad flowers on the bottom nodes of branches that dont receive much light even if the top nodes get you a decent 'popcorn nug' this same energy goes toward the other buds sites receiving more light, i dont know how more clear i can be but you get bigger buds, if you dont remove growth at the bottom that receives LITTLE light its basically draining the potential of your plant, as well as having less top quality cannabis you will yield less. Unless a plants structure is extremely branchy and you aggressively train all the branches the same height with a lot of super cropping and lst'ing or your growing them very small you WILL much of the time need to take of some lower branches off to get better yields and quality cannabis

I have several people that say you should remove the first say six inchs or so from the bottom to increase yield on the top buds since you don't really yield anything off of the small one anyways, does anyone have any insight on this? I've never done it and i've always yielded well yeah the small ones do not make up for much but it seems that you take away plant that could absorb light and yield less but would like to hear some reviews on this
I avoid de leafing or defoliating at every turn,

unless I have a very good reason I follow the academics on this one,

regardless of the current newbie fashion

to my blog: on ripping of them leaves ..lol

good luck on this

If u grow vertical then those lower nuggets get enough light to be productive. I still get rid of some bothersome leaves and branches tho

Lollypopping worsens yeilds, it doesn't increase them. The problem with the original post is that he/she mentions removal of the bottom 6 inches.....of what? How tall is the plant you are taking six inches off?
Real lollypopping kills yeild. "Undershucking" as i call it, takes out the lower 1/4 and the center suckers. In tight spaces itll make trimming easier and yields good. Especially when plants are over three feet tall. If you run small plants then less pruneing is necessary to get adequate light down low. @hellmutt bones , did you start growing? Or are you still retired?
No lollipopping dosent hut yeilds if you do it in veg it will take a few weeks for the plant to recover so u would just leave it in veg longer, if u flip wright after lollipopping then yes it will hut ur yeilds, and no im not growing now because ive been elected to work for a pharma company thats growing here in illinois but i cant even jay walk if i want this job. Pays 80,000.. oh and i have to pass a piss test so i cant smoke either.

Clean up a few leaves on the very bottom to so they aren't in the dirt and for airflow and leave the rest. Healthy leaves are the direct result in larger buds, if they aren't healthy the plant will scrap what it can for food and then discard it on its own. Good Luck.

Try to defoliate about 60% of the canopy and pinch off any thing below the net or lollipop, but give it enough time to recuperate and then flip.
You will get nothing but thai sticks on each branch not a single branch will be showing because its gonna be completely covered in buds on top of buds.

Im sure it works but my main goal is to get as much bud off a plant with 4 weeks veg max. Cutting leaves and shit just slows the growth process down. So essentialy Im losing weight cause Im losing time. I mean sure i can grow a fuckin monster if I crop, and train and top multiple times (and maybe defoliate, still not convinced) but all that takes time and isnt practical for maximum bud to time ratio. My view on it may be stupid, I dont know I just figured its alot easier and less time consuming just letting the plant be, and growing it naturally the bud to time ratio would be equal if not greater than many complex methods out there that swear to get you 18 lbs off one plant. Anyone can do that just need the time.

4 weeks veg? Thats more than enough time for some huge ass plant even with defolation its a long veg.
Also ur not stripping it down completely, ur taking about 2% a day and ur goal is to get 60% off while in veg.
