You are probably going to get legal weed, but not for 3 years and then can only possess an oz? That is rough. Hopefully something changes before 2024.

Why is being allowed to possess only an ounce rough?

We can only possess 30 grams in Canada.

Went to a weed-bq with some friends and brought oz bags for everyone. I can't smoke as much as I grow, but I love sharing just as much as smoking. My bud did the same and brought several oz bags of the varieties he grew and they've been so much fun to try out. My circle of weed friends, albeit a small circle... maybe more like a pentagon, are just the best.

If you need to carry more than an ounce you’re either selling it or one hell of a party animal.
I think an oz limit is a burden on those who live in rural areas and may not have a dispensary within a 15 minute drive. Virginia is a largely rural state west of the capitol area. I’m guessing you live really close to a dispensary to think an oz limit is all good.

“Legalization” is almost always bad for the consumer. Everyone acted like Cali recreational use was an awesome thing. It was literally an end run around prop 215 medical usage. The verbiage of the rec use bill specifically attacked 215 by making medical patients adhere to the rec use numbers. So, heavy use medical patients went from 20+ plants to 6. “Regulation” was all about taxation, damn government.

I never thought about driving to and from the dispensary. I wasn’t trying to be smart when I asked, I was genuinely curious.

Check out the Cali rules, they’re freakin odd. You can keep everything you grow off your six plants, you can have up to an lb of shit you got elsewhere, you can gift up to an oz at a time, but you can only have an oz on your person.

Completely wrong, as usual for you!

Current medical patients in California have NO plant number limits. The law says "within reasonable amount."

At least I don't have to worry about incarceration. In my town, it's like a code infraction, pull the excess and you'll be fine. It's also complaint driven, meaning if your neighbors don't complain, there won't be a visit from the police. It's very low priority for them and if you don't grow pungent skunk, most likely you won't be reported. I give to my neighbors and they appreciate it. It's not how I make a living, it's part of my hobby.

You’re actually wrong here, unsurprisingly. The letter of the law says six, with an ambiguous mention of more if it’s required by your condition. When there’s a hard number, law enforcement uses it. There have been literally hundreds of busts on medical patients for over six, because who gets to decide what “within reason” means? The government does. Have they actually agreed with anyone’s “within reason”? Not that I’m aware of. I know quite a few guys that were raided the day that rec use went into effect, their “within reason” was said to be “unreasonable”.

I haven't seen anything about whether or not growing for personal use will be included.

Under the Senate bill, passed Friday afternoon, simple possession would be legal starting in July, but retail sales would not start until 2024.

At the moment there are only four medical dispensaries in the entire state. So, for now, I guess they make bank and the black market thrives.
