India Grower's Thread

The first one is you're standard north indian sativa. there's no name for it really, all of your north indian sativas are fairly similar in the high, as it's all grown outdoors, and the growth is relatively homogenous. obv you'll find giants and runts and freaks if you grow out about a 100 seeds, but i'd say about 80 of them would be identical to look at and the high would be fairly identical. some would get you slightly more or less buzzed.

the second one is also one of those north indian sativas, but since it's so dense, i daresay he got the seeds from either further east, near the nepali side of the himalayas or further northwest. remember, just cause the bud gives you a couchlock that doesn't have to mean he mixes it...there are several 'natural' hybrids in india, or rather halfway between the sativa and indica dom hybrids, because of the influence of colder temperatures to the north.

my dealer of 4+ years gets his first prime harvest in a few days, his next one around diwali, a third one around new years, a fourth one around mid feb and a last one way later in about april, after which he's dry as a bone till october

Of the nine plants I have 8 look "related" kinda like cousins - similar leaves, color etc

1 has red splotches at every node. Was reading up on the Kalichakra seeds over at mandala and KC seems to have these red splotches too.

two at the back are WW on the left and AK48 on the right and another phenotype of WW on the front.

    ww, short single cola phenotype

    ww, other huge phenotype,

    ak48

Finally found an Indian Growers thread!!
Very impressed by your work Blackhawk149 and Elchupacabra.

I'm from mumbai and have been trying my hand at growing since last 1 year. It started off as a fluke when I just tossed some seeds while cleaning weed into a pot and well... it started growing so I took it seriously and have been growing ever since.
My first plant was a good success. It grew to a good 4.5 feet in height on just basic soil and water. Nothing else fancy.
When it was time for its budding stage it was absolutely destroyed by a severe ant infestation. I could not get rid of the ants no matter what, hence my first effort was an absolute waste.

The problem with staying in mumbai is that you get absolutely horrible quality of weed. With seeds, twigs and branches. while cleaning that your hands get sticky. Maybe its the pesticides they don't clean or maybe its the shoe polish they sometimes put to give a bigger kick but you can never get good quality weed in this city ever. Even what you end up cleaning u smoke with bits and parts of twigs, screws up your throat majorly.

Another problem I have personally faced is getting good quality seeds. I have to settle for the weed sold for 100-300 bucks which I get from bandra and use those seeds. (nope i don't smoke that weed. Purchased solely for seeds) and so far have used only those. The vegetative growing is not a problem given the heat and sunlight received everyday.
The problem is the budding when you finally decide to put it on 12/12. Previously it was impossible to find a space to give 12 complete hours of proper darkness. Even at nights when i used to grow in my balcony, the street lights were there so there was no darkness per se.
However now I do have a proper place for growing and providing those crucial 12 hours of darkness and have 3 plants growing at the moment.

I would however be welcome for suggestions because I know I am not using the proper resources for growing.
Grow soil is the regular red soil you see in almost all the potted plants. However this has seemed to work, the plant does grow but the lower leaves tend to turn yellow and fall off.
No fertilizers used presently just the red soil and have found a pesticide which I use every week to keep the ants and spiders off.

I am putting up a few pics of my previous grow which began to bud but was taken over by ants. Ants are a really huge problem and once they get in the soil its just impossible to shake them off.

Wussup Heisenbuds. Im in Mumbai too and I feel you on the mostly shit buds, man... Seems best bet is ordering online or getting seeds from up north or south and growing em in a pest free environment. I'm not the expert here, but I wouldn't recommend str8 red soil for growing.. esp for starting seeds. It's really thick n cakey, tends to suffocate roots and I've had a shit survival rate in that, compared to coco. Some strong seeds grow decent in it, but I'd at least add a good amount of coco, pelite, and some manure in there. Ratanshi Agro is this one shop in Byculla that has pretty much everything you need. Dirt, coco, perlite, manure, bone meal, rali meal, organic n chem ferts, pest control, gardening accessories, etc...
I got one decent plant right now, but looking to plant a bunch more real soon..,

Thanks braddaheee!
I know I'm on shit buds... but I'm making the best of what is available to me. I've asked a buddy of mine to get seeds from north hope that works out.
I had recently planted one sativa 6 months old... put it in 12/12 mode for budding but it got infested by spider mites resulting in white spots all over and had to cut that one off before it contaminated my remaining plants.
But I'll check out Ratanshi Agro. Been difficult to find a good shop which sells soil, fertilizers and pesticides at one place.
Another issue for me has been soil Ph... My plants do grow but lower leaves tend to turn yellow and fall off. That's mainly due to lack of nutrients in the soil.
But I'll get all that sorted soon.
Growing has never been a problem for me... The real challenge is when you put it in for budding, that's the most difficult part and so far I have failed every single time I go for budding.

I wouldn't worry too much about going for complete darkness. These junglee Indian strains can handle. If theres too much light, then maybe get some sort of black tarp or something that you can hang n roll down at night. A lil light shouldn't be a problem for these guys IMO. Jes get a decent soil mix, as much sun as possible, and control the pest's! If you see even a few mites.. act NOW! Those assholes spread and fuck shit up, man.. Don't sleep on those motherfuckers!

Yup, I just found a decent store at Star Bazaar in Andheri. Botanical place called Greenlands. They got good soil (will get a few pics of the soil) fertilizers and got good pesticides, milikill (for mealy bugs) and plant shampoo to keep out the bugs. But all pesticides are preventive as mentioned on packaging, not for an already infested plant. That place unfortunately did not have bone meal or perlite. However I'll have to start fresh anyways so will see how that goes.

20131118_113029.jpg20131118_112950.jpgAs you can see, the soil which I have now bought is black... is not cakey but quite a bit airy which will allow the roots to breathe. Also some growing apparatus... pesticides and fertilizers in granule form. Just had one regret the shop did not stock up on bone meal, perlite or any Ph kit to check soil acidity.

ants are not a pest for your plants 95% of the time. they are usually feasting on something else around there. either bugs that are feeding on your plants, eggs laid by other bugs, or the sweet goo that erupts from white sores on a plant's stems. not sure of the name for that condition.

They were in for the sweet goo from the white sores. They created quite a big colony in my pot. The roots were literally riddled with ants. I didn't mind that till they started building up an anthill using the stem as the base and started laying their own eggs on almost every branch. Its like small black blobs on every branch. Had to flood them to get rid permanently.

the sweet goo, i've never really come to a conclusion on how the sores arrive in the first place. it should be fairly easy to deal with them in a pot, i had a raised bed and if i flush them out they come back pretty quick…that's provided that i have the patience to flush more than 15 cubic feet of dirt...

but in the future, if you ever get a plant that gets those gooey sores, i'd hack it asap, because i don't know how to stop the sores from coming nor do i know what causes them.

the roots get riddled with ants, true, but the ants don't want anything to do with your roots, so i don't understand fully how that affects the plant but i have experienced the same.

Sick, bro! Damn, Andheri is pretty far from me.. do they have that soil in larger quantities? How much was it?

This one pack of soil cost 39 bucks. I've placed a small measuring cap on it for scale. They also give a pack of 3 bags for about 100... that's a lot of soil.
They also have some coconut based compressed soil. I had tried it earlier... compressed soil is easy to carry and store cuz it expands the moment its in contact with water, but its a bit too airy u need to mix it with a more denser soil because roots can't get a grip on it(hence i got the black).
I can pick the soil for you if you need it.

Cool. Yeah, coco is great for seedlings. I haven't heard of that gripping issue before, tho? People seem to grow great in coco. Personally, I use a coco n soil mix in a 3/2 or 4/2 ratio for when the plants look mature enough.
Did you start anything yet?

These 2 plants are currently ongoing vegetative state. Outdoor grow. Basic sunlight and natural light.
I'm thinking of budding them mid-december when winter has properly set in and days will become shorter.
Both plants are kept separately as the one in the grill was infested by ants and I didn't want them crawling over to the other pot.
Also Braddahee, I visited Ratanshi Agro in Byculla. Man that place is like the mecca for growers, I got neem oil and 1kg of Perlite... I think I got wayyy too much of perlite
However, they didn't have bone meal so couldn't get that.
I have one question though if anyone can help me out. I have never used perlite so I do not know the quantity to be put per plant so it would be great if I have some insight.

You using the soil to transplant these 2 into? or you gonna plant more seeds in em
?
1kg perlite is not too much. Better to have extra in hand, than to have to make extra trips to the store. Not sure, but I think there's already some perlite in the soil you just bought. You see that white stuff in it? I can't remember how much perlite I put(made my mix months b4 monsoon). I'd proly do 1:4 or 1:5 Perlite to Soil ratio. If anything, you can find that info somewhere on this site.
That's cool you found Ratanshi's! It's a nice place, they got pretty much everything you need. IDK if you noticed, but even next door there's a place which seems more like a hydro shop.. they get plenty chem nutes and stuff.
You should have asked Ratanshi guys if had Rali(fish) meal. Fools don't even suggest it when they tell you the bone meals out.. gotta ask em. And they carry neem oil? I thought they only had neem cake... Their Biogro and Greengold is also good stuff.
