hi weed experts, i am trying to grow my marijuana indoor, can u guys please tell me the needed lamp specifications?? i am very new in weed cultivation, just bought afghan kush ryder seed and the germinating process was a success :mrgreen:

recently i have been asking around about the standard growing lamp and they are very hard to find, but a guy told me that the lamp doesnt necessarily have to be a growing lamp but he didnt tell me about the specifications

i got mine from ebay but you can get them from some hydro stores or other places online,it depends how many watts you get and quality on the price,i got a 400w for just under $200
edit:norcals probably right if you want regular house light you wanna get some 6500k(blue spec)for veg and 2700k(red)for flower

Like these people are telling you guys, if you're doing small scale, a couple of plants, you're new to it, not sure if you're going to stick with it. Pickup some CFLs, 6500k for the veg phase, 2700k for the 12/12 photoperiod. In my experience you want to get more, small CFLs vs 1 large one. The reason for this is because CFLs are only efficient for the first 6 inches, therefore you want the bulb within 1" of the canopy you are trying to light (whether that be a side light, or light from the top, its all gotta be extremely close). You will find success surrounding a very small scale grow with CFL, while keeping energy usage and heat out of the question.

However, if you are looking to commit, once you get the hang of it, and you have 1-2 grows, usually you will want to go with HID lighting or LED lighting in the long run. This is not to say you cant effectively grow with CFLs long-term, HID is just more common, and there's a reason for that. And with respect to LED lights, with the right light, you can do a full grow on these as well and experience successful grows. The drawback to these are their price, put simply. Hope this helped.

Edit : For your single plant I would highly recommend CFLs. The number/wattage would ultimately be up to you, for the style of grow you are looking to achieve. Read up in the CFL sub-forum in the Indoor Growing forum. You will find a wealth of valuable information there, (even if you dont leave the sticky's).

wow thanks for the helpful comment
i should probably look for two type of lamps, the 6500k and 2700k, these lamps are the kind of lamps that ppl use for daily lighting in houses right?, but i dont seem to understand with the 12/12 photoperiod?, what is that exactly?, are you referring to the flowering period where the buds start to grow?

dont u think the LED light will be more efficient in the long run?, cause it is an efficient energy saver right?, can CFL and LED lamp produce the same results?

i think i'll stick with the CFL bulbs for now since it is easier to find and i will only my harvest for my personal consumption :)

LEDs have been known to produce equivalent to their HID counterpart. Their track record isn't as long, but if you read the LED grow journals of truly experienced growers, they are getting excellent results. There is also about a million pages of boring textbook-like data about light spectrums and PAR ratings that would back that up, but I won't bore you with all that, lol. In the long run, some of them have had to tweak their setup, adding a spotlight here or there, but they're getting the same results, if not better. As for LED vs CFL, LEDs are much better performing, but also exponentially more expensive and requires you dedicate a reasonable amount of time to research and find proper light(s) for your application.

Simply put, if you're doing a small, personal-sized grow, and you want to keep heat and energy down, and stick with simplicity, go with CFLs. Just keep them within an inch of the plant, use more, smaller bulbs rather than having a few, large bulbs, and focus on getting light to more parts of the plant. So yes, for your case, I think CFL is in your best interest because of the price and simplicity. I know I babbled a lot, I'm currently blazed as fuck, but I hope it helped in the long run. :) :joint:
