Infused coconut oil with Instant Pot 11 in 1.

Hi.
I've bought a Instant Pot 11 in 1 (11 functions) and was thinking about doing the same process under for decarbing but then use less coconut oil, more trim and put the Instant Pot in 'Slow Cook' mode and just let it infuse for +24h, then strain through cheese cloth.

I've only done it once before with the method of decarbing the trim in the oven under aluminium foil at about 120c (250F) for 30 min > mix trim with coconut oil > infused it for about 6-8h at around 67-70C (152-158F) > strain the oil through a cheesecloth > eat/make tea/pancakes.
I didn't feel much to be honest. I am a long time smoker I might should add.

I don't know where I did wrong? To low temps when decarbing/infusing, to much oil for the amout of trim or a combination of all above?

The 3 temperature ranges in the Instant Pot® are:

  • Less: 82-87.8°C/180-190°F (low setting in a slow cooker)
  • Normal: 87.8~93°C/190-200°F (medium setting in a slow cooker)
  • More: 93~99°C/200~210°F (high setting in a slow cooker)
Is 'Less' temperatures to high when infusing coconut oil and is +24h to long?

One the 11 functions is Sous Vide and I've seen some threads of people Sous Vide their bud/trim when they decarb.
Looks interesting but I've haven't Sous Vide before and want to get a better understanding of making edibles before getting into that.

Anyone here have experience of making infused coconut oil, cannabutter or other infused edibles with a Instant Pot?

Best regards.

Reading around different forums I will probably end up trying out pressure cooking-mode with mason jars with oil and trim.

Anyone have experience with this?

I just mix my oil and trim and put mason jar in the oven. I use EVOO but it shouldn’t be any different for coconut oil. I think your temp was too low. I cook mine at 225 for 6 hours.

I infuse coconut oil in a slow cooker all the time.. I don't decarb, the cooker does it..
My standard batch is 4oz. bud to 8 cups oil.. Cooked for 8hrs then left sit overnight..
Warm it the next morning strain and jar.. Cooker temp is 190-210f.. Never fails me!

I'm gonna use sugar leafs, should I grind them up beforehand even if I decide to decarb or not?
And I will need a lot more trim than oil to get an effect, correct?

For trim I do 3/4 oz to 1 cup oil.. Ground works best..
The temp of the crockpot and length of cooking take care of decarb..

You mix the oil and trim together in the slow cooker then strain it when it's done, or mix the oil and trim in a mason jar, then put the jar into the slow cooker for 8h?

My Instapot is the best tool I've bought since retiring! Since I only smoke the best buds, I make canna extract with coconut oil in mason jars with the rest. Good thing I found a prepper store selling 5 gallon buckets of coconut oil for only $60.00. When it is finished, I put a seed sprouting lid on the jar and nest it over another jar of the same size with a canning funnel. In 1 hour, the oil will drain into the lower jar with a small amount of fines. The plant matter in the upper jar is now used for some show stopping brownies! The extract can now be strained if desired. Again, I am old and lazy, so I use unfiltered extract for most of my meds. If you do not shake the jar when using, the fines will settle on the jar bottom and also end up in my brownies! I fuckin' love brownies!!!

After all these years I bought a potato ricer for straining..
It presses all the oil out and you can work with hot oil..
Peanut butter Cookies are great!

Would love to see that process sounds interesting.
You do this in slow cook-mode or pressure cooker-mode on your IP?

It's been cooking for about 4h now, should I stir the trim from time to time or keep the IP locked?

Hi, I have my goods in quart wide mouths, keep oil 1" below top of jar and weed 1" below that, cover loosely. With 3" of water in the IP, add jars and I set to soup for10 minutes, once this is finished it sets to stay warm for up to 12 hours. usually after it depressurizes I take jars out and hit with an immersion blender. I perform that 2-3 times.
So, yes under pressure.

Should I take out the inner pot and let it cool down in room, fridge or just let it cool down in the IP overnight?
