Ingenious idea to sex early without harming main seedlings

Is this idea new or has it been done before?

We've got 9 seedlings, already got 4 leafs.
Now, we were gonna take a clone of each when they reach 3 weeks, put it under 12/12 to force is to show it's sex.
Those that appear male, we can throw out the main plant and take out the guess work 8 weeks later.
I've read that if you force sex your main plants, then back to veg, it stresses them out.

Would love to hear feedback. Cheers - XYZ

its called rejuvination when you revert a flowering plant back to its vegetative state. it stresses the plant out, cause it take the plant like 3 months at least to revert back to the vegetative state. after it reverts back, you can continue to grow it fine i think. its good for a case when you want a mother plant for cloning, but its already flowering.

Don't know your strain but a lot of plants show sex at 4-5 weeks on their own. The clone being the same age as the mom, then waiting for it to root....? You could be on to something though, I just cant see it.. yet. good luck

I was just pondering this myself. Is three weeks too young to sex a cutting by putting it under 12/12???? I read that the plant should be at least 4 weeks old.

If not, I'm doing this from now on, because I top at 3.5 weeks and will be able to use that lovely top for something useful!

I have not tried it personally, but have read where guys have just covered a lower branch and sexed plants as they grow in veg! ie. a paper bag covering a lower branch to restrict a maximum of 12 hours of light and forces the branch to start to flower. As stated though, I have not tried this. Most of my plants show their sex by the time I am ready to even think of flowering them anyways.
