I run 4" sealed hood on the HPS and 6" open hood on the CMH. Passive intake with 70* at intake. vent to attic.

I have a magnetic and an electrical ballast and the magnetic definitely gets hotter way hotter.

air cooled light is just a reflector with glass over the opening with a flange on each side to keep heat off of it, you won't get as much reflectivity off a cooltube.

I have a rather large sized tent and the ballast is outside of the tent being cooled by 3 pc fans cuz it gets super hot, but so does the bulb...super hot...like burn the hair off your arm if you happen to brush into it, hot...,
