Is the 650r worth the price?

For LED and 4 x 8 you want 2x 650Rs. They are advertised as 1700umol. Same as the Gavita 1700e LED, if HLG are telling the truth. A 1000 Hortilux HPS is 1600umol, and is made for a 4 x 4 area.
They are overrating the light by saying it will replace a 2100umol DE Light and is good for a 5 x 5 area.

1000w Single Ended in a 4 x 4 Yes. DE NO. The 480w LED is good for a 3.5ft x 3.5ft area.

DE Gavita is 2100umol. We use 1150w Gavita DE, 1000w Hortilux HPS, and the Gavita 1700e

Slight difference in that DE 2100umol is a bulb output, not the fixture. There are losses with the reflector and bulb itself bringing it closer to 1800. Have 1500 after some use. And 1000w SE has the same story. The fixture makes the real difference in final output of a system.

As where the HLG's in this case are the fixture output after all losses.

Exactly

Furthermore sphere test the DE and SE at the end of the first flower cycle. Then average what the plants received the first run alone. The SE will be down some 8-10%. The DE will have lost 5%. In DE's defense it does settle in after that losing about 1% per flower cycle from there.

Also a fun one check the spectrum of the bulbs at bulb change time..... Phillips and the rest still use lumen maintenance. So yes the lumens drop more slowly than the PPF does because the spectrum shifts towards green as the bulb ages making it more lumen centric (human eye sensitivity not plants) as the bulb ages.

Im starting to think i should do 2 of the 600 watt qb kits plus a 260 watt qb kits.
One 600 on each side with the 260 in the middle. That would be cheaper plus more watts then the 2 650r.
Whats your guys opinion on that?

Over a 4'x8' flood and drain table? I think you'll have plenty of light either way. Make sure to mount your drivers/external potentiometers in an area that's easily accessible.

How much vertical space do you have to work with? HLG recommends a Mounting height of 30-36 inches above the canopy for the HLG 650R , so the R Specs may be a better option in that respect.

You think it would be a problem if i had the 2 600s on each side an the 260 in the middle. After the table ill have about 6 feet of height. The 4x8 flood table will be in a 5x10 tent.

Well ended up ordering 2 of the 650r. Once they get here im gunna start up a journal with the gg4 and jungle cake i got vegging under my t5s.
Just started to run this light. Have a 4x5 grow room. Currently in seedling stage from seed. Light is at 340 watts at 4' off the plants. How much did you push it and how many watts are you running them at for each phase? Thanks

I dont have the 650r but do have a 2 panel light with the 648's. At 150 watts between the two i can run them as close as 6 inches without any problems. Once you get out of the seedling stage, you should run that light full power at around 24" to 30" away for the rest of the grow

I run the 650’s in a 4x6 footprint 4 total. Works awesome. The buds out at the edges are just as big and frosty as the ones in the center. Gotta keep that height though. Anything under 24” will just keep throwing pistils.
