Is this a decent deal? (HPS lighting system)

Hello, this is my first post. I have been interested in growing for over 4 years now and I have found a spot, have a steady job and know it is the right time to get into it.
Here is the light set up I am interested in:

I am going to be growing 3-4 plants in a closet (1.5' x 4' x up to 8ft) and I know enough about ventilation and cooling from my overclocking PC days so I feel I can get rid of the heat easily. If 600w is extreme overkill i'll gladly downsize as the electricity cost and heat in the room with go down. I prefer one that I could use both MH and HPS in too.

If anyone could help a newbie out that would be awesome.

Yeah, go with the 250W. Everybody will try to tell you to get the largest light you can afford, but unless you put a seperate AC unit in your closet, you will not be able to keep the heat down. I have plenty of troubles with 400W in 2x3, but it is manageable so if you must go larger than 250, do yourself a favor and stop at 400.

I would go with a 400w. A 250w will just make you wish you bought a 400w instead. It is easy to vent a 400w. I have an air cooled hood in my closet and I have NO HEAT issues with a 400w. that just my 2 cents,

You have 6 square feet of space to work with, so 400W would get you a demonic 66.6 watts per foot. You could come up with your own strain and call it the antichrist...

400 watt = 3x3 erea, 600 watt = 4x4 erea, 1000 watt = 5x5 erea. stay with a 250 or a bigger room. 1.5 feet isn`t very deep.

i ran a 600watt in a cool tube in a 2X2X2 room, and had zero heat issues. I would get the 600 in case you ever decide to move to a bigger spot. Just my .02

I told you everyone would try to tell you to get bigger lights. I'm actually suprised that a couple of people have some sense.

greenhorn: how big is your closet?

rewthejew: I'm interested in the same thing bonz asked. I don't see how you could run 600 in 2x2 Unless you had ac ducted to your box or had your box in an unheated structure in the winter or something without some level of heat issues.
