is this possible-cloning outdoors

im thinking of trying to clone my tops of some plants i will be growing outside. im going to start my plants 6 weeks before i move them outside. once outside after a couple weeks im going to cut some tops off to get two main colas.can i take the tops and clone them outdoors?

it could work but with high failure rate. why not just put them in a bottle of water root em at home then put them out.
