as best as i can tell from that pic those are stipules, not female pistils or male flowers. the female pistils are white and hairy and the male flowers are clearly round. i don;t see that on your plant yet

indoors, are these spikes going to be new nodes at some point?

those are not preflowers both male and female have them soon you will see things growing directly between the internodes, if it is female the flowers will be oval shaped and within a couple of days of development you will see a hair or two sticking out a male flower is round and will start to look like a little bean
