probably a stupid question, but someone asked me today, and I actually wasn't sure... it didn't sound like a good idea, it doesnt look like particularly clean water. not sure.
Is water made from the evaporator on AC distilled?

yes, in theory it's distilled water but I would not use it as your AC unit is not necessarily sterile, thus you could have bacteria, mold or other undesirable elements
I don't know what you mean by "evaporator", but the water that is produced by an air conditioner is just atmospheric moisture that freezes to the coldest surfaces; and in turn melts back into "water". It's not distilled, it has whatever crap the ambient air was expossed to,still floating in it!
It's condensation, and as long as your coils are clean and oil-free, it can be used.
I wouldn't bother using it.
Edit: Forgot to add that the catch/drain also must be clean.
