Hey Jerry - nice lookin' ladies! I have a question about your lights. Are you running MH and HPS in the same space for flower? I'm very impressed with the trichome development on your plants and have heard MH in flower helps with that. Just curious if MH is your secret or if it is something else...

Damn jerry, you make it so hard to pick favortites anymore SQ #2 has some crazy 11 point fan leaves, you should press a couple after harvest. The pistils on SQ 1 are crazy, looks like the buds are a little denser on that one. how much longer for that LSD? Its wierd not seeing the plants on the sink for the photoshoot haha. much love Jerry, enjoy your day. those pics got mine off to a good start

I use a 400w MH for the first 2-3 weeks of flower in my small flowering space, then move them under my 600w HPS in a 6x6 tent, so no MH and HPS in the same space.

However, I do use enhanced-blue spectrum HPS bulbs, most recently the Digilux enhanced-blue, which had the best spectral chart of the 5 or 6 brands I compared. It is much more "white" looking than some of the other balanced spectrum HPS bulbs out there. If you use a digital ballast (specifically CAP NextGen) I highly recommend this bulb.

So no direct MH light after a few weeks, but a healthy amount of the blue spectrum. I think my trichome development is certainly influenced by that, as well as the organic nutrients I use and the proper environment I try to provide for them. And the genetics I'm using these days are pretty top notch (Cali Connect, TGA, Soma, DNA/Reserva Privada) so that always helps

I never really pay attention to the amount of blades on the leaves...didn't think it had much bearing on the plant. What do you mean I should "press" them?

SQ 1 is the most dissimilar, while SQ 2 and 3 are pretty similar. They all smell and look different though.

LSD is at 60 days today, and should be coming down soon. I haven't checked its trichomes though. I actually seeded that plant with the Querkle pollen, so some of the lower branches will need an extra week or two to finish up making my Q-Trip seeds! I'm going to miss having this plant around...truly some of the strongest cannabis I've enjoyed to date. But now I have some seeds of it!

I had to move the venue of the photoshoot yesterday because I already had all the plants out of the tent as I was watering. Expect to see them return to their normal spot next time.

Also, I harvested the Tahoe #3 last night. Got some pics pre-harvest, so I'll get those up soon. It is just the most ridiculously resinous plant I've ever seen, much less produced. 2 hits of the scissor hash last night and I was OUT.

nice looking canopy JG, I still have a while before I am able to get some cali connection beans in the works but looking great as usual. I would throw you some rep if I could. as soon as I get a chance tho.

Well she officially came down last night and what a pleasure it was to trim. The leaves get so encrusted with trichomes they curl over on themselves and are like cutting through thick chunks of bud. I'm going to combine this trim with the first harvest batch and make some killer Tahoe bubble hash...maybe today!

This one does not smell as much like lavender soap... its more of a fuel/kerosene this time. Dank though. Definitely dank.

That's one of the reasons I like having a wide variety to choose from...I can let strains get a nice long cure without smoking it all first!

Thanks for the clarification on your lights Jerry. I started this round with both 400 MH (Hortilux blue) and 600 Hps (Hortilux enhanced) for the first few weeks then switched out the 400 for an HPS. I noticed the trichs really took off early but slowed down later. Specifically comparing my Querkle to yours it seems yours are more frosty. I don’t have my nutes dialed in like you do (still tweaking the supersoil load/Earth Juice augmentation in 4 gallon pots) but I think the the light spectrum may also be a factor. Guess I've got some more "knobs to tweak" on the next round. Its about time to replace my 600. I may give the Digilux a try. I'm running Lumatek ballasts BTW.

Cheapest I could find...way cheaper than hortilux. Should work fine with a Lumatek as it is designed for operation with digital ballasts. CAP (makers of the NextGen ballasts) also make the digilux bulbs.

i was at the growshop today and i asked about digital bulbs and they said even with lumatek that the best bet is hortilux, they ran test on both hortilux and digilux and they said that the hortilux lumen output is higher than it was rated where as the digilux was lower. i just thought id throw that out there, also on the hortilux box it says e-ballast compatible and the guys assured me that all compatibility issues were worked out. food for thought, good luck with everything

They have a test with those two bulbs using a light meter on youtube and honestly speaking it showed the digilux was brighter faster and reached a higher peak

hrmmmmm sales tactic to make me buy a more expensive bulb dunno ill do more research before i buy another... what bout sustained lumens. im running a eiko bulb cuz thats what came with it is it of shitty quality or just a basic bulb? its a 600w btw

It says "standard hps" which doesn't mean its shitty, just that it doesn't have an enhanced blue spectrum, added output or decreased lumen depreciation.

The Digilux is less expensive than the Hortilux though...at my shop they try to push the Hortilux for like $130 before tax. You could almost get 2 digilux for that.

One major difference: Digilux is designed to operate on digital ballast, while Hortilux "worked out" their compatibility problems. Digital ballasts operate on a different frequency than magnetic, which can cause the bulb to flicker, which is what my old bulb started doing after I upgraded to the CAP digital ballast.

I like the digilux because it is designed for use with digital ballasts, has less lumen depreciation over the life of the bulb (so they say), and is manufactured by the people who make my ballast.

Personal preference I suppose.

yea i was jst watching the comparison video and its dated 6 months ago so, im going to give the guy at the shop the benifit of the doubt however i will be doing research before my next purchase, i feel over the course of the next 3 months more recent comparisons will happen, time will tell, also im going over kind of a strain debacle i want a super dank plant that i can dial in to perfection but is a proven yielder, i would like 2different strains, what would you reccomend for dankness and production, i would like at least 2-3 oz per plant. taste isnt the big deciding factor however i would like something i like, sour sweet piney lemony not a huge berry fan but if its dank its dank i would like to run 2 diff strains perpetually like harvest 5 a month out of my 4x4 and veg elsewhere. you have alot of background with diff strains so I figured you would be one of the ones to ask. Price range i would like to stay within 150 and i would also like to grow out 5-10 per strain to find the perfect pheno. Thanks bro

I'm in the camp that says proper spectrum is more important than total lumens (assuming you've met minimum lumen output). I run a Growzilla with 400 and 600 in the same hood. My LUX readings are well over the high range of what is supposed to be needed (https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-o...as-box-querkle-dairy-queen-3.html#post5075384). I'm around 140k in the middle of the canopy with both lights on.

I know a lot of people get worked up over lumens, but that's more a function of how close you keep you hood to the plants, and how much you trim your leaves to let light penetrate the canopy. If you have enough power coming from your ballast and good enough ventilation of your hood you don't have to worry about lumens so much between one bulb vs. the other (IMHO). That's why I'm focused on optimizing the spectrum now.
