Becuase the closet is starting to wrap up... I'm getting a dose of excitment again, and energy... so today I gave the girls their second shower... they are becoming quite fond of it. The leaves on these plants are pretty huge (to me at least)... but nothing like buckethead's super lemon haze leafs... don't know if anyone is watching that journal, but his plants leaves are rediculous, like a basketball, seriously.

Anyways plants look great, growing all over the place, even under puny lights. The roots have blown up... and the stalks are getting fat.

I think I'm just going to try and screen these purps... I don't know... I still have some time to decide.

So here's where things get interesting. I'm going to use Humboldt County's Own Bushmaster... the same people who make gravity and purple maxx. It is all kinds of experimental as far as how to use it. I cannot decide what to do so.... I am going to run it for 5 days in one bucket... then switch to 12/12. Then I will change the BM out for nutes, and I will give the other bucket 5 days on the BM. While using BM you don't use nutes at all, just water.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I hope the stuff doesn't work too well, becuase I will have tiny little plants. We'll see what happens... That's the point of experimenting.

I also think I am going to top one plant, just to see the difference at the end. This grow is going to help me learn a lot, not that the first didn't as well.

The detail shots are of the plant with the crazy tight internode spacing. Let me know if you guys have any concerns.

I think the experimentation is a great idea. One of your plants might not be getting to much light though if your keeping them under the same lights. The one you dont top will probably be much taller then the other one.

the rockwool is pretty much the perfect size for the cups. It stays just about level with the bottom of the cup.

Last night I started the 2 big ones in thir own tank on BushMaster...

And I chopped of a few inches of the tall one in the 3 seater.

There are getting switched to 12/12 in 2 - 3 days.

As my other grow wraps up, I am getting more excited for these little purple girlies.

Yo Jig, know what you mean about the tight internode spacing. We got one plant with so many dense branches and and stems sticking out of every possible corner that we thought it was in flowering a whole month before any flowering actually happened. (JK obviously... :bigjoint:)

You might actually be able to see it in one of our pics. Look for some new ones either today or tomorrow.

Hello everyone. I'm really dragging with the updates on this journal. Well it has been an exciting couple days for the little girls. As I said before I treated the 2 in one tank to BushMaster, along with Max Grow, and Zone. I used 2.5 mL or close to, in about 1.2 gal RO. I left this in for around 48 hours.

That 48 hours ended tongiht when I gave the two new water, about 1.1 gal RO, 2/3 Grow Nutes, 1/3 Flower Nutes, Potash, Silica, Max Grow, Zone, Cal-Mag.

The other 3 had been in the same nuterient mix since last week. Tonight I put those three in the BushMaster mix, using 2.5 mL / 1.1 gal RO, also Max Grow, ans Zone. I am going to run this for 48 hours as well.

The first 36 of those hours are going to be done in the dark, becuase I have flipped the switch and started the grls on their path to maturity with a nice long dark spell. Hang on, I've changed my mind... it will be more of a 31 hour darkness... I was going to put them on the same 11am-11pm light schedule as the closet, but these are more exposed to daylight, so I'll keep them lit when the sun it out, or about that. Anyhow... they are in their new solutions. Very happy. In the dark until Thurday morning.

I'm thinking a couple things. If the bushmaster really stops all vertical growth imediately, I'm going to have plants that are about 10 inches tall. Not sure what that is going to be light to grow... I think I'll tie the branches down flat, or to a screen 4 inches off the medium to spread them. I don't have the time to go vertical, although that would be great.

The other thing is I don't think I'm going to keep the little one. She is just trailing behind a lot. Her roots are so tiny compared to all the others, and I don't know if it will be worth keeping her around. But then again, depending on how I do things, and how much they stretch, There may be no reason to get rid of her... if there is extra space. It's not like the nutrients I feed one small plant are noticable.

Anyone have any idea when to start using Purple Maxx???

no harvest... are you thinking of my other grow?

I am not so sure on the darkness thing... people say it shocks the plants into thinking it's time to flower, so they do it faster. I think of it like this:

If the first 12 hour dark period is the signal to the plants that is time to start changing things up, there is no way they are going to miss that message with 24-36 hours of darkness... you see what I'm saying.

I got no idea if it does anything... i'm a newb too. It just sounded like a good idea to me, that couldn't harm anything. It's nice to try a suggestion you read that doesn't cost money or endanger the plants (there are few suggestions like that).

I don't know anything about the darkness before harvest. I guess the thinking is this... at the end of a grow you are kind of killing your plants anyways, by flushing with no nutes and by letting them keep going on 12/12 they think it's getting nearer to winter... and they have to get all pumped up to make strong seeds to last the cold... and if you throw them into darkness before the harvest, I guess you want them to think "this is it... winter must be upon us... we weren't quite ready as we expected the days to get a bit shorter, but whatever. Let's all give whatever we have left into fattening up our seeds (or where the seeds would be)." - that was the plants talking amongst themselves

does that make sense?

thanks for stopping by mr. dj... keep playin' that song

People would also argue that it would decrease yield and resin production at a greater rate than gained from this "oh no I am gonna die" response, as one of the main critical elements for plant production and activity (light) is denied right when the plant is in its final moments and, if you did it right, knows its dying anyway. :peace:

The plants have been awoken from their mid summer nights dream. They are on the path to flowers now. They all look great after their night time break, the 3 treated with BM second have grown an inch since I saw them. The 2 that got the BM first haven't grown at all since I saw them.

Not to much has changed so no pics for the moment. I'll probably have some later today.

you know it jesse.

Question: Is it ok to top on Day one of 12/12? Is it too late?

I ask becuase the girl I topped the other night has responded beautifully and all her lower branches are twice as thick as all the other lower branches (of the other 4 plants). I was thinking about topping the other 3 tall ones... and leaving the little one alone.

Any ideas?

:peace:

I remember reading that you have two weeks or so after changing the schedule to 12/12 before has a chance of messing things up. Any one else heard this?

I topped a clone 4 weeks into flower because it was getting too tall and its doin fine.

What you DO risk is lengthening flower time for that topped plant, however. I would say topping will add a week or two maybe to the flower time, as the recovery from it will delay the on-set of flower. This is based on my experience in soil; hydro should be a bit quicker I might assume...
