Just a Girl Tryin' to Grow Some GDP and Cheese!

Hello RIU! OK, here we go...

Been a reader on RIU for the last two years or so and I'm finally feeling comfortable enough with my knowledge to help and share my own successes and failures. Props to all the growers on here pulling lbs off their plants, you probably won't see that coming from me, but who knows what I'll be doing 10 years from now. I grow for medicinal purposes and because of my conditions sometimes I'm not able to give them 110% of my love. Don't be afraid of a yellow leaf or two as you watch my journal grow. I don't scrog or grow for high yields. My work takes me away from my grow almost every cycle for at least a few weeks, so in the past I have had to keep it easy enough for someone else to take care of while I'm gone. This grow though, you'll be seeing some LST and topping going on, as I'm at a stage where I finally want to get to be a bigger and better gardener!

I germinated 5 Ken's Original GDP and 1 Dinafem Cheese Auto via a damp paper towel method about 6 days ago. 2 days until transplanted, 2 days to pop from the soil, and 2 days growth is what you'll see here. The Cheese is a day or two younger and just now popping the soil and shedding its seed shell. There's one GDP that is a little slower in the back that is just now opening its cotyledons that you can't really see. The goal is to have 3 or 4 vigorous females (GDP seeds are regulars) all together. I am hoping for a nice male to grab pollen from but we'll have to wait and see.

The current set up is approx. a 3'Lx3'Wx7'H grow tent and a 2'Wx4'L4'H tent for drying (I like to cut the whole plant down in 1 piece and hang the entire plant because I live in a very dry climate) which you'll understand why its still up in a minute. Light source is a 600W MH for veg and 600W HPS for flower. The final home for the girls will be in 5 gal pots, all Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. Total nutrient line up contains Liquid Karma, GH Bio Marine, GH Cal/Mg, Roots Organic Buddha Bloom and AN Big Bud. I've had great results with this mix, I know everyone has a different preference.

Currently still hanging out in the grow tent is a DNA Sharksbreath that has been through hell and back while being plant-sitted, but I managed to revive it to at least get a little bit of a harvest... she'll be ready to cut down any day now, so she's back and fourth between tents until the time comes. The only reason why I can't hate her too much is she turned a beautiful shade of blue and purple recently. I don't expect too much of a yield.

And finally here is a picture of my pride and joy from my last grow, Dinafem's Critical Jack. Still curing in the jar, but final yield slightly over 2 oz. A little less than I would have hoped for but happier as ever to have grown this plant!

So if you're like me and haven't found a good grow journal for GDP on here, pull up a chair and allow me to entertain you. Please feel free to comment, suggest, recommend, say hello, etc. You'll be seeing photo updates regularly and I promise I won't stop 'til its smoked!

Very nice I like the CJ, strong thick branches and tiny leaves are my favorite to grow. Did you remove the fan leaves or did it grow like that naturally? Dinafem has been hit and miss for me, their white widow is very tiny and slow growing but I'm liking dinachem so far, I won't be able to form a real opinion until I harvest but I think I'll pick up some critical jack for my run.

I've never grown anything from Dinafem before, both the Cheese and Critical Jack were freebies. I was so happy with how the Critical Jack was to grow I figured I'd throw another Dinafem in with this one. The picture was taken right as I started trimming it so this was after I removed the bulk of the fan leaves. I haven't really bothered with any White Widow strains after growing out Mr. Nice Black Widow, but I can definitely recommend the CJ.

Seeing that pic gets me excited for the 2 Critical Jack fems I recently started. I've also got 1 regular GDP(from bagseed) that just opened out of it's shell :)

Looks good. Can't wait to see these grow out.

Thanks everybody! This is the slowest part of the grow... seedlings are just doing their thing. When it gets more exciting I'll be sure to put pictures up :leaf:

Another sloooow little seedling update here! It is day 5 today and I noticed roots breaking out of the jiffy pots in the largest 4 sprouts, so I decided just to plant them all into their temporary nursery pots. 4 GDP's are looking awesome, 1 GDP and the Cheese is a little slow and behind all of the rest. Hopefully the transplant gets them all going!

Hello everyone! Day 12 here now. Still waiting for that explosion of growth but they are way bigger than the last update at least. 1 GDP and 1 Cheese still taking their time. I started watering with Liquid Karma yesterday and liking what I am seeing...

Let the fun begin!! These pictures were taken yesterday at Day 19 I believe. I'm getting more horizontal growth between the internodes instead of vertical growth which I've noticed my past few grows using a MH bulb for vegging. When I first started growing I used a HPS for the entire grow and I had tall, unbalanced and unmanageable plants. So they seem to stay nice and short until the flowering time comes around. The small GDP is catching up very quickly and should be pretty even with the others any day now. The Cheese however seems a little weird... I always have bad stories about growing autoflowers. I don't know what it is but they are always less than satisfactory to grow for me. Does anyone else have problems like this? I don't grow them on a regular basis (this is only my 3rd) but each time they seem to discolor, grow unevenly, or be mutants. Either way I'll cross my fingers it turns out well. I've never done a full grow of all autos... I guess that would be the only way to really do it right. Anyways without further delay, here are the plants today!

I started LST'ing yesterday, Day 22. Only 2 were ready to start training.. the others aren't quite tall enough yet. I'm hoping in the next 2-3 days to be able to LST the rest of the GDP (minus the little one) as well as top the Cheese, and also start feeding some light nutrients (Bio Marine). I do see that the Cheese might need a little nutrient love soon. This is my first grow LST'ing... I was amazed at the horizontal growth I got from the branches in just one day. Why has it taken me this long? I am also planning to transplant into final 5gal homes in the next week or so. Enjoy :)

The plants are looking wonderful now at about Day 28 from germination. I just LST'd the last one in the back left corner which was the smallest GDP... she looks to be the healthiest one of the bunch. I've been battling high temps the past few days (it's been so cold my air conditioner refuses to kick in resulting in some really high temps) but now the forecast has warmed up and fingers crossed it's all good from here on out. Also most of the plants were getting wind chapped from being right next to the air source but now I've raised them up and away. They look much better than the last update. But here is where I ask for help... I have no idea what is going on with my Cheese!! It has bitten the dust.. I've never grown anything like this before and can't figure out what I've done to it to make this happen!! The hottest it got in the tent was 96F and I can't imagine that over 2 days a high of 96F for about 15 minutes max each day could have done it. But I topped the Cheese about 6 days ago on day 22 and noticed the next day it started flowering. I then noticed it was looking deficient of probably a lot of nutrients and did my first initial feeding for all plants who all got the same treatment which was 1 tbsp. BioMarine/pg and 1 tsp. Liquid Karma/pg and just about 1/4 tsp. Fox Farm's Grow Big just for the micronutrients, yesterday. Now look at the Cheese, it looks like death and is crispy and brown. I've never managed to do this to a plant so I'm just wondering how I've gone wrong here if anyone has any advice. As you can see on one GDP close up I managed to ever so slightly nutrient burn this one (the only one burned) and it is not even a fraction of how bad that Cheese looks. My pH is a consistent 6.4-6.5 and the Cheese never got tall enough to be as affected by the wind burn or heat as the other plants :( I'm just stumped here and always sad when a plant goes down.

Well, the Cheese has finally been removed from the grow room (it made for great cat food though...). So if you're tagging along for the Cheese, my apologies.

Tonight I finished transplanting all 5 GDP's, I swear I spot a male... another week should confirm this. They are all in their final 5 gal homes. They are a little droopy from the transplant after getting a healthy watering with Liquid Karma. I re-LST'd them all and will probably do some more in the next week. I'm looking forward to flowering, I know it's not much longer now! :leaf:

I think from scolding my cat the first time he bit a branch off of a plant. he doesn't bother with any of my gals even if i offer it to him. he does enjoy an occasional nibble on my dwarf pomegranate tree which i don't mind. little extra topping couldn't hurt that beast. lol
