So I just found a refurbished 400 W HPS system including ballast, new bulb, and hood for $90.00. Is that a pretty good buy and do you think that would suffice for flower 2 girls? Please let me know. Thanks.

Yes that's a good deal. And yes, it should be good for two ladies. Though it always depends on how big you veg them. Are you planning to veg under the HPS as well?

I'm vegging with 6 300w equivalent CFL 5U tube bulbs. They are about 12" long.

Careful though, since its refubished that means the bulb and ballast have been used so u wont be gettin the full output, but not knockin u at all in fact if it was hps and mh 400w and at that price i would b buyin it as we speak lol

They are providing new bulb with the system and you can operate any standard or horticultural 400 watt High Pressure Sodium lamp or 400 watt Metal Halide Conversion lamp. Ballast has been used but has been refurbished and has a 30 day warranty.

Just keep in mind that for about $50 more you can get a digital dimmable ballast with both MH and HPS lamps included. Digital are more efficient, and you can use either light spectrum.

I went for it. Came out just over $100 with shipping. I know I could have just gone with a system $50 bucks more or so but it's the holidays and I always take baby steps. Just the way I am.

This will rock your world then!

This is a core & coil then (magnetic) ballast?? If so, that's good, CMH bulbs are the bomb!

You WILL probably need to upgrade your ventilation. There will be more heat to go along with all those lumens.

It depends on what type of reflective hood comes with it and it's size/footprint. Unless it's a damn good one it's not that much of a bargain. I'm assuming it is a magnetic ballast and you can buy a new 400-watt HPS magnetic ballast light with a four sided 15.5" long x 12.5" wide x 6" deep reflective hood, pebbled if I remember right but I might be wrong, and a 2-year warranty on the ballast and 1-year warranty on the bulb for something like $115.00 to $120.00 from High Tech Garden Supply. If the one you found has a batwing reflective hood or a smaller reflective hood the little extra cash would be worth it to have a better reflective hood, have the system be new and have a 2-year warranty. It's not like roughly $30.00 is much more to spend to have something new and at least parts of it maybe being better.
