"The Iran Deal Benefits U.S. National Security

An Open Letter from Retired Generals and Admirals

On July 14, 2015, after two years of intense international
negotiations, an agreement was announced by the United States,
the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China and Russia to contain
Iran’s nuclear program. We, the undersigned retired military
officers, support the agreement as the most effective means currently
available to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

The international deal blocks the potential pathways to a nuclear
bomb, provides for intrusive verification, and strengthens American
national security. America and our allies, in the Middle East and
around the world, will be safer when this agreement is fully
implemented. It is not based on trust; the deal requires verification
and tough sanctions for failure to comply.

There is no better option to prevent an Iranian nuclear weapon.
Military action would be less effective than the deal, assuming it is
fully implemented. If the Iranians cheat, our advanced technology,
intelligence and the inspections will reveal it, and U.S. military
options remain on the table. And if the deal is rejected by America,
the Iranians could have a nuclear weapon within a year. The choice is
that stark.

We agree with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General
Martin Dempsey, who said on July 29, 2015, “[r]elieving the risk of a
nuclear conflict with Iran diplomatically is superior than trying to do
that militarily.”

If at some point it becomes necessary to consider military action
against Iran, gathering sufficient international support for such an
effort would only be possible if we have first given the diplomatic
path a chance. We must exhaust diplomatic options before moving to
military ones.

For these reasons, for the security of our Nation, we call upon
Congress and the American people to support this agreement.

Its long overdue to cut the umbilical cord with Israel. They are capable of defending themselves...we can't police the planet..its creating more enemies n bankrupting us.

That`s not police`n,...that`s keeping your promise. Why would we doom the one`s we died to liberate some 80 years ago ? The Umbilical cord thingy ?

I'm more of an "isolationist" I think the Middle East needs a civil war IMO. We have far too many problems in this country to be nursing Israel ... Time to get of that titty n be a big boy.

ALMOST, but not quite, as stupid as those people who think a democrat politician is different from a republican politician. Now that is a really stupid person.
don't you blame all the problems of majority white, republican states on black people?

What saddens me about this letter is the fact that these guys felt it was necessary to write it in the first place.

I've been saying it for years and it keeps getting worse...the Republican party has become a circus sideshow...it's kinda scary.
Scary sideshows occasionally steal the spotlight. The republican party is as slick as ever- and yet the democrats aren't really a better choice, merely a less bad one.

Both organizations are completely and wholly owned subsidiaries of Big Business and everyone knows it. It's made a mockery of democracy, a sham out of hearing the voice of the people.

I think that's the reason Bernie Sanders is leading in New Hampshire and closing fast in Iowa. People have lost faith and trust in the established parties and are looking for an alternative that doesn't just spout the same tired platitudes.

He doesn't have a lot of great hair days or snarky soundbites. You have to go find what he stands for- but when you do, you might find that he's the only one talking about an awful lot of issues that are important to you and me, as opposed to scripted, stupid, insipid drivel constantly pandered as 'news'.

After eighty years? Cut the cord; Israel lives or it dies. I'm tired of its blatant and habitual use of the United States as host for its hateful, racist, murderous, sectarian brand of parasitism.

It's time to stop coming to this country and telling us how to give them money and support, so they can continue their slow process of exterminating the indigenous population of Palestinians- and anyone else who stands in front of the bulldozers, even their own dissenters.

It's time Israel is held accountable for its actions and face the consequences. I'm not anti Semitic in these views, although many would tar me with that brush in an effort to steer attention- and resulting blame- away from their own activities. Plenty of Israeli Jews feel exactly as I do.

Why is it going on? Because war is profitable and Israel runs on profits, just like the US. It doesn't hurt that many Israeli 'settlers', aka squatters, are running off or killing the rightful owners of property throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip and simply stealing their ancestral land. These thieves then vote for the political party that supports their war criminal activities... the Likud party, led by the chief apologist for genocide himself, Benjamin Netanyahu.

An Israeli national murdered Yitzhak Rabin, the one Israeli prime minister who did the most for peace in the middle east... including peace with Egypt's Anwar Sadat- before he too was gunned down. By contrast, 'NutherYahoo and Sharon before him did everything they could to foment and continue the unrest, precisely because they gain so much from it.

I know this isn't the middle east history y'all were taught on television... but the truth is that the US and Israeli military have made the place their chief playground for testing military hardware and tactics, which of course is very expensive... but don't worry. The American taxpayer will cover all the costs associated with the ongoing bloodbath, because 'HolyLand!'

Tom Cotton. Should listen to that chicken hawk punk talk about how America needs to go to war against everybody! Ever notice that he's always talking about someone else doing the fighting and the dying? And how he's not alone?

Sorry for the rant and the lecture...

Not.

Why must the United States take care of Israel? Why must we look out for their best interests, and some cases put their best interests ahead of ours? Why do US taxpayers have to foot their military bill? It's idiotic. We cut the Marshall Plan off at some point.

Edited to add: Oops, I forgot about AIPAC's lobbying money. /sarcasm lol.
