Butane. Got 2.2 grams of oil from about an ounce and a half of trim.

Basically, I ran 2 cans thru around 1.5 oz. Hot water bath until bubbles stop popping. Then oven purged on low for awhile. Then scrape it up.

Your BHO looks like my first attempts. you want to get that stuff lighter, more of a golden color, the darker the green, the more plant material is in your BHO.

Purging is the most important step. yes warm water bath works but takes a long long time and still won't get out all the butane.

Checkout or google for a home made DIY vacuum chamber, they can be made for about $20. With a vac setup you can create honeycomb with your BHO, which is much easier to handle (when done correctly, it crumbles in your hand instead of being super sticky like your shatter BHO)

Vac purge gets all the butane out in 20 mins. Much much cleaner taste.

If you haven't already, consider getting a stain less steel tube to do your extractions, or a glass tube. if you use pvc it is adding plasticizers to your bho. even honeybee extractor release small amounts of plasticizer after several uses.

Have fun, get a dabber nail or Ti swing!

I use glass tube. Maybe I oven purged for too long? I have a TI swing and love it.

You can make amber glass that has basically no butane but most people prefer the inferior product called 'honeycomb'. Amber glass is so much easier to get on the dabber than trying to smash budder on the end but that's just my preference.

Just because vacuum purging doesn't technically use 'heat' doesn't mean you can't lose flavor and potency by over vaccing. Instead of giving them a pressure to pull at, you just said 20 minutes which isn't very accurate.

IMO the op's oil looked like it had a good amount of butane still in it. I know people will suggest homemade vacuum chambers but I wouldn't skimp on anything. I've heard of people using glass jars that have imploded on them. For what it matters you can make 'clean' oil without a vacuum chamber, the only thing is you have to adjust your temperature if you always want a nice gold colored amber glass. As for 'honeycomb' I've made honeycomb not using a vacuum chamber. Personally I think people over use the vacuum purge as one dispensary markets their stuff "3x vacuum purged". There's no doubt in my mind vacuum purging 3 times reduces the flavor and potency.

I have no idea what most of this is...have never tried honey oil myself...
Worry about using flammable gases and all that.
And I would have to get the extractor and all manner of what not...
So bubble hash for me it is.

i use 5 cans of benzomax butane from lowes , i evaporate the tane in a hot watter bath the i purge the dish on my stove on open flame from like 1-2min take it off the stove then hold the pryrex dish in front of my 10k btu ac till its cooled a bit, the scrape with a clean razor. i find making oil is much less time consuming the bubble hash, and quality is allways much higher, even 91% iso hash can come out very nice after u tweek how ur making it.

when i said try and do better, im not h8ing, just trying 2 push u 2 refine how ur making ur oil. do u need expensive butane and a glass extractor? NO. i use lowes butane and pvc pipe(i make a new extractor eveytime). i think when u purged the oil in the oven u fucked it up.

You don't need a glass extractor, a stainless steel turkey baster will work fine and cost about 7$. I would suggest using atleast 5x refined butane. Cheap butane can have containment's that are considered harmful. I've said this to multiple people but some people just don't care about their health. The containment's from the butane will not evaporate and will stay in your oil. You can vacuum purge all you want, but your oil still won't be 'clean'.

The dark color in the op's oil is from left over butane and possibly over heating. Grinding your herb and spraying it can also lead to a darker colored product. I like to just break the nug open slightly and pack it in.

I think it's darker cuz I oven purged. The first time I made oil I just purged with hot water and got transparent amber shatter. I need a hot plate so I can do lower heat.

The only way you could lose potency is if you're doing an oven / heat purge and you overheat the shit.

I've found the easiest method for purging the oil is to use a food saver (assuming everyone knows what this is) and mason jars with holes cut in the lid. I just heat my parchment paper smeared with BHO in the oven for about 3-5 minutes @ 250 then I remove from the oven (oil should be malleable at this point) and place into large mason jars with vent holes cut in the lid. I then vacuum purge the mason jar in my food saver which very effectively removes the butane. I repeat this process 3-4 times and the end result should be beautiful amber honey oil. I just put the parchment paper smears in a rubbermaid container in the freezer and I break off a little piece of honey glass whenever I want. The foodsaver is way f'ing better than those shitty little hand pump purge devices IMO. Whatever method works for ya tho...

And BHO is far far more intense a high than any hash I've ever smoked. 2 different worlds altogether.

I don't think I saw this mentioned but what helps a ton is to pre heat the pyrix dish in a water bath right before running the tane. As the tane/goods hit the dish it is quickly evaporating the tane which then makes the perge less work in my books!
