i wouldnt use soil that has nutes added already.. like miracle grow and that kinda shit... for a couple reasons

1. you have no control over how much nutes your plants get... which can more often than not lead to nute burn and and death
2. those soils usually have growth excellerators, which although make your plant grow faster, they arent good for your plant... its like giving hormones to cows... its just not natural... but thats just me...
3. you really have no idea what kind of chemicals or nutes are in the soil

and lastly

YOU CANT CONTROL HOW MUCH NUTES YOUR PLANT IS GETTING WHICH OFTEN LEADS TO NUTE BURN AND DEATH..

but yes.. your plant need nutes or it will die...

Get some basic 20-20-20 (veg) and 10-52-10 (flower)... I used them for years ... they're cheap $7.00 each at any walmart... just be very careful and use less than 5ml per gallon (cup included) ONCE a week.... and watch as it can burn them quick...

Soils with nutes is iffy if you don't have experience... you can add nutes, but getting rid of them is a major event... Luck.

never tried that technique... so i cant answer... i do some pinching but thats it... i like letting them do thier own thing... au natural ya know... start feeding your plants when you see growth start slowing... dont wait till it stops.. just starts slowing... i would start with 1/4 to 1/2 strength nutes until you see the effects on your plants... its easy to add... but a bitch to take away... but it looks good... i wouldnt skimp on the nutes.. its a get what you pay for type area... foxfarm is excellent soil... just keep an eye on the ph so you dont have nute lock out... good luck
