Karma's Little LED Tent

Hello fellow growers.
I recently purchased a new light for my little tent, aka my veg tent, a 180W LED light from Area 51 Lighting.
I had been using a bunch of CFL bulbs as a cheap and easy fix, but not any more, and I'm starting this online grow journal to commemorate the event.

Stats:
Tent = 19"D, 35"W, 62"H
180W LED Light = 2.75"H, 11"W, 16"L
Plants = Sour Cream (re-veg), The Purps #1 (re-veg), The Purps #2 (re-veg), Jack Herer (clone), with more on the way.

So here's what my humble little veg tent use to look like:

Here's what it looks like now, after installing my new LED light:

The LED light is super bright for only being 180W's, it makes the 100W's of CFL I was running look like flickering candle light.
These pictures are from 2 days ago when I received and installed the LED light, I'll have some new ones up soon.

It's been a couple of days since installing the LED light and things are going well.
I had to raise the light higher since the Sour Cream's fan leafs were drooping from being too close to the light.
Again, I stress, this light is intense and bright, so it's now at 27" above the Sour Cream and nearly 3' above most everything else.
All of the vegetation has turned to a deep lush green, from the lighter, lime-ish shade of green it had been.

Here are the Sour Cream (left) and The Purps #1 (right).
The Sour Cream's fan leafs have started perking back up since I raised the light.
The Purps #1 is almost the same height as the Sour Cream, but it's leafs showed no sign of drooping at all, and is doing very well.

The other day I planted 4 Lemoneese seeds (cups labeled L1-L4), with Lemoneese being a Cheese cross.
They should hopefully start poking up through the soil very soon.
Yes, you're not seeing things, that Jack Herer clone in the back is a male.
ROOSTER IN THE HEN HOUSE, ROOSTER IN THE HEN HOUSE!!!!!!!
Relax, it's okay, I promise.
That cutting was taken from a Jack Herer plant that had been growing under 24/7 lighting for 8 weeks.
In that time it never showed sex, so as long as this one is kept under 24/7 lighting, it won't grow any balls until I tell it too (but more on that later).
In the front we can see The Purps # 2 cutting re-vegging.
I really like this plant so far (the mother it came from that is), as she's not stretchy, is filling out nicely, smells like lemons, and looks to have a short flowering cycle.

Tonight I planted 2 autoflowering Diesel Ryder seeds.
Even though this is my veg tent, I'm still interested to see how well this light can flower, and the Diesel Ryder will do that for me.
They are regular seeds, so I planted 2, in hopes of getting a female (fingers crossed).

The most telling tale so far is the new growth on my Jack Herer clone.
I tried to get a good close up to show the super healthy, waxy, new growth on the ends of the leaf.

Now back to why I'm keeping this Jack Herer male around.
I bought a pack of Sensi Seeds Jack Herer a couple of years ago, and due to one thing or another (all of which was my fault),
I never got to smoke any buds from those seeds.
This guy came from the very last one of those seeds and will be my breeding stud this summer outside.
That way I feel that some value came of that pack of Jack and that it wasn't all for not.
I'll be keeping this plant in 24/7 stasis till I should need his pollen or until I run out of room in the tent,
then he'll simply be moved outdoors.
He will be pollinating both of The Purps plants that I have re-vegging now.
This is the birth of my breeding program, known as Project PJR.

Awesome Karma, thanks for the sharing this with us. I'm definitely digging all those projects you've got going on and they make your journal that much more interesting. Best of Luck with them.

If you don't mind me asking what kind of camera do you use?

This is just a veg tent, correct? Don't you have a couple prosource 180w leds that you use to flower? How do those compare to the area51?

Thank you very much sir, I try to keep things interesting.
My camera is just a uber cheap point and shoot by GE, but it's 12 megapixels and does decent macro so no real complaints.

Yes, this is my veg tent.
Yes, I have a flowering tent full of ProSource LED lights, but this journal isn't about them.
What I will say is that I went with Area 51 because I wanted to try a proper 3W LED light with lenses.
They had the best price and offered a lifetime guarantee, what's not to like about that?
As for comparing the two 180W lights, all I can say is that the Area 51 3W LED light is brighter then the ProSource 1W LED light, but that is to be expected.
I haven't had the Area 51 light long enough to be able to say any more than that yet.

So it's been 3 days since my last entry and things continue to go well.

The Sour Cream (left) has started to perk back up, despite a mild Cal/Mg deficiency, which has been corrected.
I think she just needed time to readjust to her new lighting source.
The Purps #1 (right) is growing fairly rapidly now.

No signs of life yet from the Diesel Ryders, but patients is a gardener's best friend.

All 4 Lemoneese seeds have sprouted, so I am very happy.

The entire seedling and cutting area in general is thriving.

My Jack Herer clone continues to impress me with it's rapid growth, but I need to replant it in a bigger container soon.

Looking nice - how far you keep the light above seedlings?

You should pick up the identical veg light - trust me

The seedlings in the red cups are about 39" away and the Diesel Ryders in the 2 gallon pots are exactly 36" away from the light.
As for picking up a new veg light, whoa, slow down, I just got this one.
If anything, I'll pick up a 3'x3' flowering tent and one of Area 51's bigger lights this fall, because so far I'm impressed.

Mini Update, both Diesel Ryders popped through the soil today, so all 6 seeds that I planted in the last week have germinated, so I'm smiling.

Just saying if you are into LEDs, it is worth getting a veg model for your veg/clone plants -- there is a difference, one being I believe less incidence of cal-mag problems. it's basically similar to difference between MH vs HPS. Love my veg light.

Things continue to grow well.

My Lemoneese seedlings are ready to be transplanted, and will be soon.

My Sour Cream and Purps #1 plants were transplanted recently.
They're readjusting well, although the Sour Cream is still having a nutrient issue.

I also transplanted my Jack Herer clone, and he continues to grow like wild.

Both Diesel Ryder seeds have sprouted and are growing strong.

Not only is The Purps #2 (PS#2) monster cropped, but so are my Sour Cream and The Purps #1 plants.
But I took those ones several weeks earlier, hence the reason they have gone back to a vegetative state already.
I took cuttings from those 3 plants since they were my garden's recent stand outs, in hopes that I might run them again, or use them for breeding.
I will take clones from the monster cropped plants to use, but I wouldn't run the actual monster cropped plants themselves.
The Purps #1 & #2 are both needed for Project PJR.
On the other hand, my Sour Cream plant is totally optional at this point, and I may end up scrapping her soon if her nutrient problems continue.
That's the danger of "monster cropping", you never know if the plant will turn out exactly the same again or not.
My guess so far on the Sour Cream is "not", considering the original mother plant grew like wild fire during veg and flowering, without nutrient issues.
