Keeping a sterile res in dwc Shock Chlorine Advice

I am experimenting with pool shock. Through all my research I have come up with this ...
HTH Super Pool Shock @ 65% Calcium Hypochlorite
Make your SOLUTION FIRST .. 1 gram calcium hypochlorite to 1 gallon of water. From there, in your res, mix your SOLUTION at a rate of 5ml per gallon (3.785 litre)

I was a little freaked out to try this, but it seems to be working. As for residual left in the plant, I will be getting a full lab test done after harvest and will posture full results.
I am currently trying this out on an Indica based CBD strain that yields 30/1 CBD to THC called "Island Time".
How did that lab test go?

I did counter your statement in the threat you posted it in, LOL.....

Show me the scientific papers that says sterile rez exists. even on the chlorinated gas manufacturers website it says for preventative. If adding a small amount of pool shock made your rez sterile then why do autoclaves have to get so hot. LOL no way that bleach is breaking the endospore shell. Period. Thats why we have to heat things to a crazy high level. It's common sense.
It's been used on a commercial scale in hydroponics for at least 30 years. You only talk about theory but lack practical understanding. Chlorine has been used as a sterilizing agent for water treatment for over 100 years. Is that enough evidence for you?

I used the Chlorine Dilution Calculator (link below) to figure out how much 6% bleach to add to my res when I do a change out but how do I add-back the same amount of bleach every 3-4 days into the system with plants in it without killing them?

Pool shock works great. Best used as preventative measures. H202 is better for treating if pythium has already taken hold. I forget the calculation but I add 1 gram to 90 gallons at 65% concentration...this is roughly 2 ppm

Literally the first thing it says under the "Pros" it says it doesn't remove 100% of the pathogens just that it reduces enough that an established plant can then protect it self. LIKE I SAID STERILE MEANS 100% PATHOGEN FREE.

This is why people who know what they are talking about never come here, cause they get shouted down by idiots.
Yes its not actually sterile in the true meaning of the word, its the opposite of running bennies....so what it works.

Interesting reading about Calcium hypochlorite(Poolshock) and chlorine(bleach) to avoid these many nasty issues that can happen in your reservoir.

I am battling with slime(cyano bacteria) for over a year now. Recently brewed some tea to see if that can help me, but if not then it will be the sterile approach.

Important to note, with tap water, hence its worked fine for the last 15 years along with GH nutrients.

Tryed demineralized water recently, same issue with the slime. Temperature in the reservoir gets up to 71 degrees Fahrenheit.

As one can read there are many opinions on these two these products and how to use them.

Around here I cannot buy Poolshock, that brand in particular but others are to be found, my question, what gram amount is safe to use, for my reservoir which is 30 liter, around 8 us gallons. 0,1 gram or more?

Bleach/chlorine here I can buy household bleach, what ml or drop ratio should I use, read in another tread as an eg. 6-8 drops for 1 us gallon.

Feedback appreciated.

Have a good Sunday...

You need to make some stock solution. After toying with this for a few months I make my stock solution like this.
6 grams of HTH Pool Shock 52% Calcium Hypochlorite to 1 gallon of water.
I then use 1ML of the stock solution per gallon of reservoir solution. I have never had a problem with that mix. I have never had it harm a plant or get root rot. I run NFT and RDWC systems and when I stumbled across this a few months back I was fighting cyano bacteria as well. THIS KILLED IT! Never had it since then either!

.

I am researching how to sterilize my Rez as well... ***SIIIIIGH**** New to Indoor DWC and I brew the Tea myself.

I cleared it up in both of my plants...Transferred them to my new RDWC and the Healthiest one of the 2 got infected.
Made a Great Shark Solution...and continued the Tea
Slime gone...
But Its scary that it can appear at any given time the Rez's temp rises for long hours (8)
If I'm away I can't monitor things and when that happens, pathogens that exist multiply and it begins all over again..
I want to sterilize my Rez and hopefully this will work.

Yes one has to be very carefull with these products, dont want to kill any more plants than already.

What about with seedlings SmithyGreen

Same amount or less, many people here and in other threads have varies receipes and amount of product to use.

Cheers...

0.1g to 10 gallons is 1ppm. 0.1g for 8 gallons is roughly ~ 1.2ppm residual. I would aim for 2-3ppm in DWC

Was also the amount of Calcium hypochlorite I had calculated myself roughly, the product I can find here has a percentage of 70%

Can this amount also be used wen starting up seeds or should I go lower, thank God for a scale on these small amounts:)

And thank you.

Happy to help. That's completely safe (1.2ppm). My local brand is 60-70% pure. I start my seeds in cooked peat mix to make sure it's inert. I only do light kelp/humic mix as foliar and feed/watering.

Used to use small amount of bleach to combat "damp of" back in the day. But it's not needed if you have enough aeration on the soil/medium surface. Cheers!

X2 on the stock solution. HTH Pool Shock (Step 3 "shock") 56% @ 5 grams per gallon. Then add 5 ml of stock solution per gallon of water in hydro system. No more algae or slime. Dont use the "all in one" pool treatments, just the shock.

Not sure if I read this correctly, but if you are using the pool shock stock solution and tea at the same time, you are just killing off all the bennies in the tea by doing so. Should be one or the other in Hydroponics.

I was all ready pondering that...lol

you are just killing off all the bennies
I was like...Dam...It will kill my bennies...

So...Just treat with Bennies until Finish? And Thanks For Letting me know which one to get...and I'll purchase it any way to start my next run

Big Thanks

If thats what is working for you. The efficacy of the shock is only about 3 days or so. If its not added, you should be able to build bennies again if the tea was working before the introduction of pool shock. Best of luck!

Since I already have bleach in the house, thats what I am going for if the Tea doesnt work.

Tried to weigh out 0,2 grams yesterday, and thats not alot of course. Quite puzzling when you search on the site, you read people using 6-8 drops for 1 gallon, dont know what that measures out to be, but quite the difference.

Think I will try the 0,2 grams to 8 gallons to begin with, just to be sure.
