Ken Burns's newest documentary "Prohibition"

I just completed watching the entire documentary. It may well be his finest effort yet. Brief in comparison to "Baseball" or "The War", it chronicles America's efforts to ban and later support consumption of alcohol from the turn of the last century to the ultimate reversal of the 18th amendment. One can easily draw direct parallels between prohibition of liquor and this countries' current attempt to legislate morality by criminalizing cannabis. Tell an american they can't do something and see how well that works...

Don't think you are the only one that is a little long-in-the-tooth, passed the half century mark last year so I made use of the DVR on this one. What I liked most was the extreme polarity that the isssue brought to the forefront in this country.

Hiya Carl... back indoors for the season.... speaking of long teeth, I used the VCR ;)... just kidding, though it does get used. I watched it twice (some segments), too lazy to turn the channel. It was quite well done, as are most of his docs. I couldn't bring myself to sit through Baseball. The Prohibition parallels were unmistakable and I kept hitting the pause button to discuss it, much to my ol'man's dismay. I used to be firmly in the decriminalize camp... but that show made me think. Legalization makes the most sense to me now. I try to be a good citizen, I don't mind paying a sin-tax, especially since I don't drink. Unfortunately, in the eyes of the law, I am nothing but a criminal.
