I posted this in another thread but I was wondering your thoughts of using kombucha as the yeast part of em. It feeds on sugars and has a low ph, who knows? I ran out of time and now it's too cold to lab or kombucha compost but may bring it inside.

I made another batch. This time I used palm sugar for IMO 2.

Which is why it's much lighter than using brown sugar.

I've also got another batch of rice going and when that's ready to jar I'll start another one.

this is so cool. i'm about to make some OHM this weekend, or at least start the process.
Oriental Herb Nutrient? Oh man, what a long and drawn out process. It looks like you gotta buy a CASE of vodka and hard to find herbs in the USA like angelica root. I wish you luck on it and I hope that I am just blowing it out of proportion. I never really finished making ALL of the KNF inputs and I probably should get around to doing it. However, @hyroot got me into using JADAM JLS in my Sub Irrigated Planters. I'm still new to JADAM but I used FPJ in my earthbox and was very impressed with it, probably one of the best inputs that I used!

I drink Kombucha about everyday now, but it's store bought stuff. If we could make homemade kombucha that was bubbly, then I would consider it more strongly. It's cool to see someone else into this...

Awesome thread @xtsho. This is the real deal sustainable growing. Been using LABS for years. It's something of a miracle cure for human, animals and plants.

Love the idea of adjusting and inoculating everything with local living cultures, supporting the natural biome.

Went to a local Korean super market called H Mart here in LA County. Found everything I needed. :D Now, to start the process.

So now that I've collected the IMO's it's time for step 2 where it's mixed with brown sugar and allowed to ferment for about a week.

It really is growing. Lots of microbial activity.

As I broke it down I could feel the heat being produced. It wasn't hot but much warmer than the ambient temperature around. Heat was being generated.

After mixing with organic brown sugar at a ratio of 1:1. I thought of using palm sugar but I'll experiment with that later. For now I'm just following the basics. But I don't see why palm sugar wouldn't work.

I have ceramic crocks but didn't want to use them for this so I used a large mason jar and covered the top with 4 layers of silk screen material.

I wrapped the jar with a black garbage bag to keep the light out.

That will set for a week and then I'll inoculate some organic material. Typically bran is used and I might purchase some as they sell it at a local organic supply shop down the road. But I'm also going to liquefy some and spray it directly on the soil before spreading compost. It can also be stored in the refrigerator. But I plan on making it all the time so I won't have any need to store it.

I'll be back with more updates and pictures on the process which I find fascinating. You really can't get anymore organic than this. I'm a convert. No more chemicals for me. Now to start making FPJ "Fermented Plant Juice" to use as fertilizer. I'm just disappointed I didn't start making the transition to organic self sustaining growing years ago. This is the way to do it if you have the land and it doesn't take much.
As long as the sugar u use are crystals palm sugar should work! All about the osmotic pressure

great info in this thread , I’m excited to try some IMOs.
Considering collecting a couple from different zones
- from the soil under a 300 ft sequoia
- From a rocky outcropping where sedums g
- From a thriving Permaculture farm

should I mix into one big IMO Once they inoculate/populate or should they be separate ?

also has anyone made a ferment from Datura?
( jimsonweed/ moonflower ) Or a FPJ from fresh salvia divonoriim leaves ? I have access to both and am wondering if psychoactive properties can transfer..
I guess any answer or trials will be anecdotal because it’s hard to quantify ..

but please share more experiences with IMOs and thanks for all who posted concise clear pictures of how to.

Master cho suggests to keep your imo cultures separate and blend when you want to use them :) so they keep their personal diversity while they sit dormant and so if you want to use some of one but not of another you can.

Spring cultivate IMOs for early life..
Summer cultivated IMOs for vigorous veg...
Autumn cultivated IMOs for flower/ripen...
Etc

logic and maigk babi haha

FPJ out of all of the above would be amazing, as far as transferring their powers I’m unsure but you should try ;)

The Roma tomato FPJ is probably the best input that I have used up to date, great stuff!!!
The npk of tomato leaves is 0.35 - 0.1 - 0.4 or if you normalize it it's 3.5 - 1- 4. The result you got seems to say this is a good ratio of npk. Especially if used during mid flower on.

Chris Trump was on the Shaping Fire podcast recently talking all things KNF. I highly recommend listening to it. He clears up a lot of misconceptions about KNF and how the inputs are supposed to be used.
