Hey VTMi'kmaq.
There are a few of us (that i know of) rocking the SMD (flatter) LED's: FranJan, Rasser, MajorCoco and Gastanker . They are very knowledgeable.
In my opinion, The white SMD's provide a cheaper start up cost and can fit seamlessly into your existing setup, for a gradual change over. You can also build up as your plant grows, so it wont mess with your wallet all at once.
This is part of my setup at the moment. From left: 50w cool white (6000-6500k), 50w warm white (2700-3500k), 30w cool white and a 10w cool white. These SMD's are sold in fixtures, sold as 'floodlights'. These draw about 125w all together, so this is about the same as a Blackstar 240.
They allow the plant to get close to the light as they have a very wide beam angle (120 degree i think) , so are ideal for cabinets and smaller spaces.
The replacement parts, should something go wrong are also quite cheap. (driver and SMD)
I have also used screw in household LED's in a previous grow to direct light where i need it most. Lower watt and less heat then CFL's.
Anyways...i dont even know if you wanted this info... Just letting you know options.
