L.e.d question.

Have someone offering this light for 100 dollars used. Was wondering if anyone has ahd experiance with these particular l.e.d's and if they could give feedback as to how good they do at providing the light needed to let ladies flourish. Or are they a waste of time money and effort?3Ec3Ga3H45N75E55Kecb31a8c9b961ab8103b.jpg3E83M33Lc5I35Nb5Gccb3cdc7e67be36813e2.jpg

Let's assume it works as advertised. Are your plans for mmj?

It's old tech as to what spectrums are correct for mmj

IMHO, way too much red, however you can supplement it with a couple vanity fixtures and some bright whites and a warm white low watt screw bulb leds

Here's how I roll, after making a poor (uneducated) choice 3 years ago buying a UFO 90 with similar R:B. The CFL is a ReptiGlo. < 2 weeks to harvest. I have a grow thread on IC

Never once gave any thought to led's, the only reason i'd brought this up to the community was to hear the truth about the light. Wow, you obviously did your homework and made it payoff.

After getting screwed (by my own lack of knowledge) I became very interested in LEDs, as they are the future, and the future is NOW. It's just that you (we) need to know what we want so that we don't get ripped off.

Keep in mind, most LEDs (like most nutes) were/are not designed specifically for mmj, and current offerings are > 2 generations behind. Area 51 is getting ready to introduce new fixtures that should rock mmj. But if they are out of your budget, you can do as I did and DIY using off the shelf screw bulbs

Basics included knowing what lumen watts, CRI, lens angles, heat dissipation, driver quality,... oh, and what mmj friendly spectrums mean
. You're going to need to learn it sooner or later. Might as well start now

Hey VTMi'kmaq.

There are a few of us (that i know of) rocking the SMD (flatter) LED's: FranJan, Rasser, MajorCoco and Gastanker
. They are very knowledgeable. :)

In my opinion, The white SMD's provide a cheaper start up cost and can fit seamlessly into your existing setup, for a gradual change over. You can also build up as your plant grows, so it wont mess with your wallet all at once.

This is part of my setup at the moment. From left: 50w cool white (6000-6500k), 50w warm white (2700-3500k), 30w cool white and a 10w cool white. These SMD's are sold in fixtures, sold as 'floodlights'. These draw about 125w all together, so this is about the same as a Blackstar 240.

They allow the plant to get close to the light as they have a very wide beam angle (120 degree i think) , so are ideal for cabinets and smaller spaces.

The replacement parts, should something go wrong are also quite cheap. (driver and SMD)

I have also used screw in household LED's in a previous grow to direct light where i need it most. Lower watt and less heat then CFL's.

Anyways...i dont even know if you wanted this info... Just letting you know options. :)

From the 2nd photo it looks like an older Blackstar. From the look of it, it's got the glass siliconed on not secured with the screw on plates. What model did this person say it is? It doesn't look like a 240. Is it a 180w? Don't buy an old used 180 for 100 bucks VTM. There are other options for you out there.
If it's a real BS it will grow weed. And a real BS240w for 100 bucks ain't too bad. Good Luck.

Hey Chroni, thanks but GT, MC and Rasser (where art thou sir?) are knowledgeable. I just steal it all from them ;).

^^^The questions are then; What kind of grow are you going to do? What size area? How many plants are you thinking about? And ultimately, how much cash are you willing to part with? These answers will help people make suggestions on what LED you want. Or if using one is even worth it.

okay lets start with a dr80 and three auto strains i have saved. It shouldnt matter if there reg or auto im thinking. I am in peat based organics with worm castings and tea;s for feeding during veg and flowering. As for sach im a frugal sumbitch and will try to get a decent deal at a amazon or from another grower IF i can otherwise i can allocate up to 900-1000.00 it'll just take me a month or two to save is all.thanks guys!

Offhand Area51 would be a great company for you. I'll also recommend Vipars if you're in Europe or Canada and you want to save a buck. There's quite a few others since you've got a good budget for LEDs and I would recommend checking out some journals around here, especially Endur0xX's journal, https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/529386-fero-336x3w-more-perpetual-12-a.html, for growing in supersoil. Puffenuff's journal is good too, since he runs many different panels.

There are some websites for the auto crowd, and they could probably makes some great recommendations on a LED panel for you. Good Luck!
