lcd lighting!!

The thing is you need to build a panel if you want the correct results. Also the high wattage LEDs (over 1.5 amp a piece) produce enough light within 12" of the plant to grow if you have the correct color and enough of the correct amperage. To get your plants to flower better you will need a source of infrared light in the room, a CFL will work.

Go to the sites that suggestively sell their lights and look at their wavelenghts (something like 450nm and 650nm respectively for red/blue), go to an electronics site like digikey.com and order yourself some highwattage LEDs in the same wavelength. Order enough to build one panel 2 blue per 1 red and another panel that is 3 red per 1 blue.

Use your 2 blue per 1 red panel for veg and add the other panel for flower.

This will not be cheap as the right LEDs cost $4-5 a peice last time I checked and you will need hundreds as well as patience and soldering supplies.

For a 12v power supply I used a laptop power supply for my last try. It will produce buds and veg well for less wattage but you should still think about adding supplemental lighting like a few warm white CFLs during flowering.

htggardensupply.com

their leds concentrate blue light for veg, and red for flowering.

im using them now, first time ill let u know.

seems to be working fine to me

:)

you can't reinvent the wheel man - LED's scientifically and practically are an inferior light to anything else on the market. HPS is tried and true. CFL's are tried and true (with less yields). LED's are toys...they don't grow shit!

ok, comments like this make me mad. obviously you can't compare a model T with a corvette. LED's are NEW. they are UNTESTED and NOT RESEARCHED.

YES, they are crappy for flowering. BUT NO, they are ok at vegging.

With the proper research in applying LED's to growing plants i'm sure they could tweak and design a setup that COULD blow hps's out of the water.

i'm not saying they ever will, but they are way to new to tell what is going to happen....so before you run around saying LED's suck dick and are trash PLEASE remember..... when the first major production car (a model t) came out it kinda worked, if you tried to drive one today you would complain about how much cars suck and how much work it takes to drive one.

and i can almost gaurentee if that same person came around 50 years later to drive a vet he would be completely amazed with the difference in the two cars....

its all realative....

they got grows on u tube that pretty much show that led is lame, but i never used them myself to give u my opinion.

I think quite a few missed the whole point of the video. At the very end you will see that the HID Lighting ended up getting .22g/KWH and the LED got .36g/KWH. By those numbers LED is 61% more efficient than HID. What I would really like to see is an equivalent wattage setup prove this point. 400 actual watts of HID vs 400 Actual watts of LED lights. If the HPS gets a total of 1 pound will the LED get 1.6 pounds? If equivalent wattage grows more, then hell yes LED is worth it.

Personally I would like to be buried with my lumatek 600's and cool tubes.

I would argue with you on this point, but we're not even on the same level. You presented a false analogy in attempting to rebuke my point, so there's nothing to respond to. If my comment makes you 'mad', then that's weird because I merely stated an opinion - that's it. LED's are expensive, shitty lights for growing anything. They could potentially by the best light in the history of the world, but again, that's a logical fallacy to argue that we should pursue something because of the potential benefits that it might someday produce. Scientifically and practically, that's a silly argument.

And no...it's not all relative.

What were you able to assess from using the search function before posting this question

yeah - many people forego the search function and ask anyway. the problem is that some of the most knowledegable people tend to stop answering the same question over and over, so you get all kinds of sketchy answers.

lol, good point but still........i just saw a grow journal that did an led grow, it looked good but he never followed up with a dry weight or anything....

he grew a pretty nice plant under 40w of led's...

We gauge the effectiveness of our lights on actual plant growth.

Which says to me they have never done a side by side grow of weed with a 1000 watt HPS and their LED lights.
