biologically i believe the plant will go into a reproductive overdrive from the hormones released in prolonged dark periods. whether 48 hours is appropriate is debatable and in my experience not proven. if youre going to do it though, keep your fans and exhaust running. they still produce o2 and moisture will form on the leaves that transpire toxins. this is why we use only water in the last weeks. we dont want to smoke the nutrients and biological waste that the plant is diffusing through its pores. i think, however that a dark period for 24-36 hours would be fine. i doubt the plant will change much more without a light source in 48 hours.

thanks man. there is only one way to find out. some one has to have two of the same plants and havest one when the lights are on and one when they have been off for 48 hours. unless there is another way? and the plants would have to be clones to tell for shore i might be wrong.

its too hard to measure like that. to be accurate you would have to grow an entire crop and see if there is a significant difference. with just one vs one the fluctuation could be from anything. better light position, more co2 cuz of better air hitting it. but a whole crop vs crop would measure exactly, or i should say, more accurately the value of an enhanced finishing dark period.
