Leaves rolling under..

Hey, all..

I've got eight plants going about 2.5 weeks old. They were going gonzo then, all of a sudden, 3 of the 8 stopped growing and started rolling their leaves under. The leaves themselves are very dark; the tops still look "ready to go", like they're waiting for the remedy. The healthy ones still look great ('cept a few N burn spots on the first leaves).

They're all in MiracleGro potting soil -- I've heard this is a little "hot" for weed. I transplanted one of the sickly ones into a really basic bagged topsoil with no nutes and a pH around 6.8. It's been in there about 2 days, but no response yet. I couldn't really get all the MG off that plants' roots - they were very fine and matted. I thought it would do more harm than good to clean the roots completely.

Anyone been thru this before? How did you fix it? Thanks!

I am having the same problem and posted in the NEWBIE section. There is some good advice in there.

NEVER USE MIRACLE GROW! Use some dirt from your area or sphagmum moss and mix with perlite, vermiculite, bone meal, and epsom salts. This combo will make for great aeration and drainage for roots and the bone meal will provide phosphorus while the epsom salts will provide magnesium and sulfur. Sounds like you have a phosphorus deficiency at the moment. You may just scrape by with the miracle grow this time, but heed my advice for later grows. In order to absorb the nutes, your ph needs to be between 6.2 and 6.4 in soil. You can lower your ph with 5 mls of vinegar for 1 gallon of water (the water should be filtered and absolutely tap-free) Raise the ph with 5ml of baking soda in 1 gallon of water.

Miracle grow is fine for cannabis. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/111697-raidermans-seni-g13-hashplant-miracle.html Check out this guys grows. In fact half of all the "Old Timer" growers I know use it, just about all of them add 20-40% perlite for better drainage. Most people go overboard with nutes when they are rookies, organics let u do that and get away with it, Miracle Grow won't. I don't grow soil anymore, but when I did I used Miracle grow with 50% perlite and they were beautiful plants. s2 It just sounds like u are overwatering, I could be wrong, I need more info to know for sure but that will make the leaves curl down. When it gets severe the lower leaves will yellow. Just let them dry out awhile and u should be fine. Also with MG, it is a time release fertalizer, if it is overwatered without proper ventilation it will over release nutes causing nute burn.

Thanks, folks. I took another one of the sickly plants and transplanted it into fresh soil - a mix of non-fortified bagged topsoil and MG at 70/30 percent mix. I cleaned the roots more thoroughly than my last transplant. My subject first drooped over completely, then sprung back in about an hour. So, so far so good.

In running down a number of threads, it looks like this "downcurl" problem without discoloration tracks back to either excess nutes, or overwatering. I dug down into the bottom of the old pot after the transplant -- moisture was perfect. So, it doesn't appear to be overwatering.

I've also got a problem with temperature -- it's hitting over 90 in there. Gonna move the whole shebang into another room that will stay a little cooler. Cheers!
