LEC question

Saw the Galaxy LEC ballast, can ordinary HID hoods be used with this unit?
Only if there is an LEC socket. It is not a mogul base like HPS bulbs. But there are adapters available.

I got the sun system LEC remote reflector with my galaxy LEC ballast. It is really nice gear.

Growers house had competetive pricing.

I have an XXXL predator hood I was hoping would be compatable. Spread and coverage is unreal with this thing. But that grams per watt of LEC......

Check the 315 thread recently, we have another member who just setup a bunch of 315's and I do believe he's running those same hoods and VERY happy with the setup so far. It's a clean looking setup too.

Edit: Found it brother, he's running AC Big Kahuna hoods. It's member @DemonTrich

I do think that my blockbusters would work very well as they are designed for an intense direct down footprint. Even with a 400 mh daylight bulb the reflector gave a nice spread and intensity.

But I would be wary of the oversized hoods as they are designed to maximize the spread of a thousand watt lamp for a sea of green style grow.

And the 315 is not powerful for a spread like even a 600w HPS. I can see that clearly in my room.

Also the bulb and specific Phillips info shows vertical is the best way to run and sun systems designed their reflector specifically for the bulb.

Demons setup has nice overlap. I think that may be nessesary for that kind of hood. But I still wonder how much all of these concessions hurt performance.

Step down transformers for 120v. Mogul socket adapters. Horizontal bulb orientation.

Phillips recommends none of these things.

I am not sold on them being a stand alone light source for my flowers because the footprint is small and if I need more of them than HPS they are no longer efficient. But in conjunction with the super HPS it is showing improvement in yield and quality in my room.

I agree on all points, was just providing a link for him based on what he was looking for.

After my move I will see how much space I am working with and determine my light setup from there. I am thinking of supplementing my 1K with either some vertically hung 315's or my 600W Blue MH in between if the area can handle the temps we will see. I am very happy with the Auto run that just finished under the Blue MH, and the way the Super HPS from Hortilux is doing in the flower area.

This to me is like the drag racing brother, for a while everyone was on the jap side with forced induction (I'm guilty back in the day) but there's no replacement for displacement. When you watch these guys now that really haul ass they're forced induction V8's not the four bangers..............the lighting is almost there. I think the ceramic HPS will be the forced induction V8 of lighting

This discussion just got me back thinking about the pros and cons of converting my hoods.

I didn't think your link was anything but relevant.

I am really liking the 315 vert bare bulb idea between the 600 blockbusters and spread out the footprint a few feet.

But man I will need a convenient way to turn that thing off. It would be seriously bright out in the open.

Only this forum would have me seriously considering taking apart my brand new LEC reflector to pull the socket and cord in my first month of ownership.

Lol

I like to tinker all the time and I am always trying to learn more and test new things while at the same time becoming a better grower. :bigjoint:
