Awesome grow man looks super good and the light seems to be working awesome. So you say it doesn't put much heat out, is it effective like a LED when it comes to drawing power and racking up the electric bill?
Hey nvhak, thanks, it's shaping up nicely. These lights raised temps in my room about 2F above the chinese LED's, they're basically the same as far as heat goes, cool to the touch. As far as efficiency/power draw, they are as good as the best LED's out there for power efficiency/spectrum. imo, only the higher end LED's like Apache, DIY 3070 COB's and A51's would be comparable. I'm targeting 12-14 dry zips this run from a 315w bulb, unless I screw it up somehow, 12 zips/336g is the low end imo.

You gonna hit that 14 zips easy..
Hope I get my other account back up and running, love these lil lights.
Hey Wolf pack, thanks for the vote of confidence, they could/should, haven't run these lights long enough, nor been at this indoor game long enough (18 months) to get a feel for guessing yet. Although, 3.5 zips per PPP and 3 zips from JTR is all it would take to hit close so not unrealistic at all. I got 3.4 from PPP and 2.6 from the first run and those were much smaller plants. Only question is whether they can hold that level of productivity in a larger/higher footprint, but from what I'm seeing so far, they're not suffering ;)

Well damn groerr that was one hell of a read, I remember seeing gen's run of it and I just actually asked him what the name of it was again and then I found this thread and I've spent the last 2 1/2 hrs reading it and you guys have convinced me to get one!

Have either one of you used them for veg? I'm curious as to how they would do there.

I just got done vegging under mine,10 3gal..light was at 18-20 off the tops..
I'd say a 4x4 easy..for veg.

Well I think you got the hang of indoor growing just fine, and it can only get better now.
Very fine grower @GroErr

Hey giggles, thanks for popping and reading through the thread, you won't be disappointed. Haven't used them for vegging yet, will need a bigger veg room to do that and will likely be building it this winter. My cabinet could probably handle it through the winter but I'm very happy with the LED's for vegging and I have a lot of panels so I'll stick to those for now. They make the same bulb in 4200k, probably better for vegging, easy enough to switch them out to the 3100k if you're running them in a single room though. Cheers.

philips also makes the same bulbs but in a 210w version.

here's the cheapest bulb/ballast combo i know of-
http://advancedtechlighting.com/cdmmw.htm

advanced tech's combo is a mogul base, but 220v. easy to find a
reflector, but you have to use 220v for input so that could be more
of a problem if your grow area doesn't have a 220 outlet nearby. for
that size lamp, i would go with a mini sunsoaker reflector personally.

Thanks again, cheers. Yeah I'd think they could easily cover a 4x4, probably more raised a bit higher, they don't need that much intensity in veg and these things are intense. Would really like to see some documented veg runs, I may do a comparison against the LED's down the road when I build a bigger veg area.

Good point not a bad option that 210w for smaller rooms/grows. Probably close to the yield from a 400w hps with no heat. I'm running these at 120v, all you need is a converter box and they're cheap, like $40-60. The Sun System fixtures running at 120v include a converter inside to allow running them @120v. Only thing with those is about 40-50W extra draw/overhead vs. 220/240v. At some point when I can take the room down for a day or two I'll throw in a 20A/240v circuit in there, remove the converter and run them at 240v, worth the gain in power draw and likely some slight efficiency gains. But damn, if this is considered inefficient @120v I don't give a .... ;)

How far for you keeping it from the tops of the canopy? How many plants are you hoping to get that much off of?

Hey thanks typo, kind of self-serving buying another, now I'm going to have to build more veg space to feed the flower room properly ;) Yeah that BD had to go, it was pre-flowering and taking more than 1/2 my veg cabinet, in you go! Should be interesting to see what it looks like in a couple of weeks, good thing I have lots of space/head-room available, going to need it I think :bigjoint: Cheers...
I got a nickel on the BD being a damn special plant in the end under all the variety of spectra it gets.

I've adjusted them a couple of times through testing, I landed at 20" above, went from 12-20" in 2" increments until I saw no burn/fading on the top canopy leaves. Not many references out there for these, just had to play around. I have 4 plants in a 36 x 39" footprint, looking like around 30-32 tops. Did a lot of training on them, LST, super-cropped, FIM'd, hoping it pays off in weight.

this really makes me want to take that jump to 240. iv been putting that off...
Yeah, kicking myself for not putting in a circuit, will do it at some point too, would be worth it...

Hey city, this is a first grow of the HSO BD, have no idea what to expect. I hear they're productive, and I did about 10 weeks of training on it, should be a good one. Interesting you mention the spectrum thing, will be keeping an eye on that. I've been vegging last couple of rounds with LED's then moving them to the CMH. The plants seem to really like that transition, they explode once they get under the CMH and 12/12, never seen anything like it. Will be interesting to see the response with a switch of spectrums a couple of weeks into 12/12. Could be a combo of the lighting and spectrums when switching light sources causing faster response?? idk but I know they like whatever's going on :D

man, those LECs really seem to be the most economical solution
to high efficiency growing today. i would love to see a side by side
of LEC vs COB, watt to watt.

Yeah, they work well, still amazed at the speed of flowering and intensity off only 315W. Still noticing some slight bleaching of the PPP leaves @20" height, maybe that PPP strain is just more susceptible, not seeing any on the JTR.

I have 300w (@1400 ma) of 3070 Cree COB's and all the components that I'll be building once things calm down and it gets a bit colder here. I think they'll be very close from what I've seen some folks pull with those COB's. A side-by-side could be in the cards down the road, next couple of runs I'm trying out some new strains and DIY crosses. You need same strains and clones or it's an invalid comparison imo.
