I never ran HLG so can’t say anything there. I know my 1700E are bomb, I won’t be switching back to DEs LOL.
Pros
645watt > 1150 watt
Less cooling needed
denser nugs
Higher yield per 4x4
double stack option
Edison rebates to switch to LED

Cons
3.5 times more $$$ than DE
Bigger humidifier needed
Less coverage 4x4<5x5
Higher ceiling needed
Higher electricity bill
HIGHER electric bill WHA?

I’m fine with knock offs if it’s the same diodes and drivers and they can be easily exchanged here in US. If I have to take videos of the light and sent it to the manufacturer to China than wait for them to send me new one I usually pass. Lost time lost money. So I rather pay more and if anything I can switch the light at my wholesaler. Knock offs like Luxx lighting for example don’t even know what type of diodes, drivers, Umol etc they got when you call their rep. After one harvest it’s well worth it. I’m sure there are way superior companies then Gavita for a fraction of the price. I just never had time to gamble.
For ~1/2 what a Gavita costs, you can keep a couple back ups and still come out ahead on a bigger grow. In my case the company (Shenzhen umol Tech) has a US warehouse, so they can get me replacement ~ a week. My guess is most of the knock-off lights are either DOA or you can expect a decent life time with them.

I applaud you for trying. I know a guy that runs flexstar that has same diodes different driver. Gets about the same results for around $500. I paid around 1k for the 1700e and as I said never had the guts to gamble with a different light. Plus I have net 90 with my wholesaler so it really doesn’t matter to me. If he had Growers choice for example I might have ended up with them.

A few pros you forgot.
No hot spot in the canopy/more even coverage (with bar style LEDs)
The plants can get really close to the light (<6 inches - applies only to bar style LEDs)
No more changing bulbs
Easier to clean than hoods

I got ~4x5 coverage from my 1700E "knock-offs."

You right. Forgot about those. And honestly coverage is probably more like 4x5 since the buds sticking out in the walkway on both sides. Another pro the light penetration is better then DE. Never had middle nugs size of a golf ball with DEs

Dont be scared ! ive lost a lot of weight being scared to switch. If you dim the lights you will never run into any problems us new leds users have. I been growing for over 20 years and one run under led was so obvious. For guys who do great under hps then the difference is not huge but its for sure seeable. The light spread is 100% better. Any plant outside the 1ftx1ft area will get almost double the light they are getting now. I could go on for hours about what i think is better about them but my partner has yet to "see" the difference so in the real world he is not convinced. i am beyond convinced.

I checked out you IG if you are pulling 3lbs of those nice chunky buds you got posted on there I am beyond impressed. Let's see some pics of the grow.
I posted a pic for you on IG. The best I could for you. It’s still in week 6. It’s a 10 “weeker” . Same Runtz that I pulled from the other room is the previous video. Peace

Lol nice looking plants. For me it's less about how good your plants look. We are discussing your awesome yields. So I was curious to see how you got your crops arranged, how high or low the lights the lights are, hydro or just moving benches etc etc etc.

12-16 plants under 4x5ish depending on the strain. I use rolling benches in some rooms. Some Rooms have led, some DE. Ceilings 10-12 feet. Coco 3-5 gallon buckets depending on the strain. Lollipop about 2/3 of the plant so I left with mostly tops. Top them twice in the veg. Veg for about 4 weeks. Pre veg for about 2 weeks. 72-78 F with lower humidity. Hand water so each plants gets attention every other day. Feed them 3 times with nutrients and 1 time water a week. About 30% runoff. I get to 2.7 EC by week 8. Just RO water flush for the last weeks 9 and 10 depending on the strain. Hang them upside down for about 7-10 days then jar cure them For 2 weeks before they go in to turkey bags.
Something like that )
