LED Help

Riu'ers,

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I currently have a 600w blackstar led in which a few rows of diodes have quit working and a strange humming noise is emanating from the unit. Just my luck it is 5 month past the 1 year warranty. I was wondering if anyone had any links or useful information on possibly replacing the bulbs (think it may not be just that easy). I am completely inexperienced in electrical work so if it is too complicated, I will just have to bite the bullet and acquire a new light.

In the event that I need to buy a new light what would be recommended for an led which would cover a 3x3 tent and be less than 600 dollars. I am going led as a way to save power and reduce heat (growing in the desert). I would like a light with hopefully a warranty which lasts more than a year. I have a legal medicinal grow where I grow only for personal consumption so I do not want to have to keep getting new lights every year and a half.

Any help is appreciated. :joint:

dont know how they r built but i think you would Need a DMM (digital Multi meter with Diode test function), a soldering iron and solder...and some (3W?) replacement diodes. Disassable everything (id make photos or record it while doing that), use the Diode test function and go quickly through all diodes and see if they light up, those that dont -desolder them and replace them. I dont know if its that easy with them, but thats how i would do it on my DIY panel

Sounds more like a Power Supply issue, whats the AC line from the power company like, do you get many Brown outs?

It probably is the driver if a lot of the LED's dropped out at once. Contact Blackstar and they probably will ship you a new one, hopefully for free if it is close to expiration date of the warranty. Open it up, and disconnect the feed wire to each individual driver to tell which one is bad. Replace the bad one and you will be good to go. The LED's last forever almost, not so the drivers. If you don't want to bother, check out Advanced LED, 5 years warranty, made in the US, and they have great customer service. I had a driver fail, they SENT Fed Ex to pick the fixture up, and had it back in a week. Can't beat that.
