Led light

Hi I’m new to growing. I’m on my second grow first one was weak yield. Had a cheap 85 watt led light purple in color. My question is I bought a mars ts1000 white light. Can I put both led lights on since they have different spectrums?

Are you growing seedlings or are your plants mature already?

I would not use LEDs on seedlings is the reason I ask, a fluorescent + incandescent combination works best imo on seedlings & clones, I use a single 24w 4100k T5 setup with 7 watt incandescent inside a small metal cabinet on mine. 2/3 fluorescent w/ 1/3 incandescent is an old school lighting combo that has been around since at least the sixties, it's proven to grow some healthy seedlings for me in my setup so far.

Seedlings need UV light to grow optimally, and T5's or cfl's can provide all that's needed for a few small seedlings, then once the mature maybe 4-6 weeks or so then slowly introduce them to the LED light.

Hello @Rolloff and welcome to Roll It Up. I think your Mars TS1000 pulls about 150-watts from the wall, almost twice as much as your 85-watt lamp. Together at 230-watts or so you might have enough light to effectively veg in a 2' x 4' tent. I'd want more light for the flowering stage though.

There are some interesting threads in the "LED and other Lighting" sub forum. You can view them here:

Here is a thread called "Things to know about lighting"

Good luck!

I can't get over how much my plants like having both led and hps together. Not sure but I would think that such a broad spectrum should be good for them

I know im just popping in right here. Hopefully no one minds.. Should I be able to veg a couple plants ( 2 or 4 ) under (2) 4100k 32w T8’s and (2) 32w 5500k T8 Bulbs?
No mother plants, just 4-6 weeks from seed and then switched to a flower tent. Anyone think the plants will be too small and or weak with this lighting set up? Can anyone suggest a distance to keep the lights above the plants? Is the mixture of spectrums good or should I be using all one kelvin grade?
Thanks to anyone who may shoot some advice my way!

Your end yield is going to suffer using just those t8’s

Even if I use a strong
Your end yield is going to suffer using just those t8’s
Are you saying if I veg under T8’s and Flower under T8’s my yield will suffer? Or advising that vegging under T8’s in itself will restrict my yield even if the flower tent is running Nice Full Spectrum LED lights?
By the way thanks for the advise, is it from personal experience or common knowledge of the hobby?

You're good with T8 veg and a good LED flowering light, Country.

I no longer veg with T8's, because my most recent LED fixture is good seed to harvest.......hlg 550V2 rspec, 3500k

Do you have any word on average what I should expect size wise after a month from seed under T8’s? 128w 6400 lumens total.
Good looks man, I appreciate your fucks to give! 8)

Bottom line never saw any issues from to much lighting only too near
I believe I have seen both.
Light damage presents as the material at the top of this sad little bud.

I know it might just look blown out by the lighting, but it truly turned white. It's not properly scorched, as with heat damage, just got bleached by the "sun."

Yah 128 watts ain’t much nor will they get very dense. I’d get the 550 rspec. I just bought 4 of prohutinc‘s seventeens. I had bought one of the seventeens and three of gravitas pro 1700e’s but cancelled that order and went an picked up three more of those seventeens. They’re badass lights. If moneys not much of a worry go with those seventeens they’re 640 watts 1800umols an about 134,400 lumens.
