Led lights ppfd intensity vs distance

Hey guys I couldn’t find an answer on this.
So my question is what’s the point of having 115% on my led lights and keeping them 30 inches away if I can just leave them on say 85% and keep the lights closer to my plants. I would save on electricity and have the same ppfd.

the so-called "sweet spot" - which is (falsely named) a volume of a light-cone that has the right values for plant growing - will be less if used less power.

another way to look at it would be to discretely measure the amounts of light-particles which the lamp is emanating. this will (almost) increase linearily to the power being drawn. it's easy to understand that more photons per seconds will result in more sugar molecules build (if the radiation isnt put to waste somehow...)

Interesting….ok so I should always try to use more light intensity and just increase the distance

It's kinda like a teeter totter you gotta find the balance if that makes sense. The brighter it is the higher you will want it and the dimmer it is the closer you'll need it and subsequently lowering it will reduce the footprint. @Kassiopeija explained it well.
