Being in a confined heavy reflected area may have something to do with it, Most if not all the Blackstar grows that I've followed were in grow tents or small areas that took advantage of reflection. There are currently 2 fine looking Blackstar high wattage panel grow journals on the forums here, one is using a single 500w and the other is using 2 - 500's so there will be something to compare too. Even the few 240w Blackstar grows appear to have fattys going on so that's all I could come up with is enclosed space reflection.

I was thinking that too. Since the led footprint is smaller than hid, I believe reflective properties in an led grow room are important to have to maximize the light

a friend of mine has also just taken the plunge from hps to led he is doing quite a big setup as well 15 lights or so ..... fuck i wish i could convince him to post a journal but hes american and paranoid .... not sayin you all are but your government is fucking you all up. anyway just thought i would post about it cause he has been growing for 10+ years and is a stuborn son of a bitch haha but he saw some very big advantages and did his homework and got some good panels and he is happy as shit. just an example that times are a changin. :)

I dont know I hear a lot of people saying you need watt for watt to replace a hps with an LED and i have found this is absolutely not the case at least with my cabs im running 2 cabs right now 3x3 and 2x3 ceiling height is not important in this figure as i scrog. With a properly trained plant to get equal yeild of an hps all i have needed is 240w blackstar panel. Thats it, now thats not saying it couldnt have been better and that i still wanted more light. So far my favorite combos of lights have been 3 h150's over a 2x3 ebb and flow, also 2kessils and the blackstar was excellent as well results were about equivalent though so the kessils all alone did better because they use way less power. With 3 kessil h150's you are using 108 watts of power give or take a watt or two this absolutely blows my 400 watt hps out of the water so i dont see how you could say you have to have watt for watt matching to beat an HID. Now some manufacturers of LED panels maybe this is true maybe you need equal, but not all. Do your research and learn how to train plants that is your biggest friend with an LED. If you train your plants right penetration isnt as important, why i scrog everything i do under LED.

both of you are very correct with an LED reflective material and plant training play the biggest part in discerning your yeild. Noob grower that doesnt know alot about training and just paints his walls white is not going to get much with an LED, Box your plant up and mylar or panda film those walls to holy hell and train the shit out of it and you will be a happy camper with some fattys

I was thinking that too. Since the led footprint is smaller than hid, I believe reflective properties in an led grow room are important to have to maximize the light

@bmf sorry about your grow...those pics are not at all flattering...my last grow was all blackstar 2 240watters and i got better results....i definitely had penetration issues but i was impressed with the results
my bud wasnt top shelf and im not sure if it should have been, as i had all kinds of issues on top of being a new grower

How long did you flower with your 240's? Kush groove? I would say your buds are 100% bigger than mine.

Hey Guys,

New here, but I've been bumming around at Grasscity for a few months and I just found this forum. Anyways, I'm interested in some of your opinions on which LED brands to go with. I know you've probably covered some of this in the thread already (I read through 10 pages and decided I wasn't going to make it through 466, Sorry ). I've already gone through about 30 websites and I've narrowed it down to what I think are the best eight. I would love some advice from anyone here with an opinion. Here are my top eight. Who makes your top three list?

1. Blackstar/Gotham Hydroponics/Lighthouse Hydro: People on this forum seem to like this brand. They seem like a good bang for your buck. I just can't figure out why they need three different names.

2. The Magnum from LEDGrowLightsDirect.com: I haven't seen this one mentioned as much on this forum. It does get some pretty good reviews on random websites and other forums.

3. The LED lights at htgsupply.com: The folks over at grasscity seem to love htgsupply.

4. Hydrogrowled.com: Their main light is the penetrator. Seems cutting edge, but I've heard their owner is a lunatic.

5. Growledhydro.com: Could you make the names any more confusing? Main light is the Spectra which got good reviews from the infamous Irishboy.

6. advancedledlights.com: Gets mentioned here and there.

7. prosourceworldwide.com: Gets mentioned here and there.

8. kessil.com: I've only seen them mentioned once, but they seem legitimate.

Which companies would be in your top three?

My top 3 based on personal use, journals I've read, and and the lights im most interested in:
1. Advanced LED - I use these and am very happy with them.
2. GrowLedHydro - ive seen many nice journals using these lights.
3. Tie - Kessil and BlackdogLED - both of these intrigue me based on their tech specs.
