Led wire thickness

So what wire thickness for bxeb gen 3 z board.

Says 14 to 24 awg wire I see 18 seems to be the standard peeps 7se to make fitting easier ??but 14 would offer less voltage drop and run cooler ..and surely fits if data reccomends it max?? Could use the solder/crimp ends to make them14awg fit.

Isn’t 14 gauge larger wire then 24 gauge.
Thought it was like strands per inch or something.
Double 00 wire is pretty big.
correct. lower gage equals larger size. just like shotguns. to answer the OPs question, I use 14 gauge from the drivers to the board because I mount my drivers outside the tent. For a short run 18 gauge is perfectly fine.

Is it slims? I had problems with 1mm stranded (weirdly no solid core where I live), no fit. Tried .75mm stranded but the stranding was too thin and no joy with pushin connectors. I had to regauge 1mm to .75mm with a tool, in order to get the right strand thickness and total wire thickness right. Im not sure about the regs.

Wow late stoner night after trimming. Numbers are back to front I even thoughtried so I posted smallers bigger as I posted haha.

Yeah I meant 14 the fat ones has less volt drops lol and should I get 14 and use the connectors crimps to reduce size to strips as I've seen some struggle to fit them without breaking saying 18 fits perfectly and bigger is a faff about. Or is that only if using non solid core individual wire stands wire.?

Thank rocket is talking about what I was on about exactly lol. U can't get solid ..wtf? Doesn't like all hardware stores selling it for house wiring etc? I got choused of over 40 wires from things shut to stuff like ur arm fat .

Thanks nano ill be inside tent on the pannel ..seen these solder on and crimp ends that reduce 14 to 18 is it a good idea to use them and have fattest wire poss?

for the slims?
i used 0.75mm2 solid core, its a tight fit, works well just hard to remove the cable.
thats a little thinner then AWG18, which is 0.82mm2.
so, AWG18 or 20 solid core and see what you like best.

for the slim datasheet say 18 max, dont try 14.

I was wondering this exact thing, as I noticed the Meanwell drivers use 17 gauge on the output wires and my LEDs use 18 gauge wire to connect to them. I thought there might be efficiency in using a 16 gauge wire instead of the 18. Guess not on such a short run.
Guess I was overthinking it too.

do the math, dont know the lenghs.

f.e. 10A on 1 feet is a dif. of about 1W for AWG14 to AWG18, ampere are the limiting factor.

20awg works great for slims
18awg for normal strips.

solid core is way better for shoving in connectors unless you wanna tin a million wire ends.
bloody seems every website makes up there own measurements,

18awg ive now found to be 0.6-1.2mm depending on how the person learnt it,
some state via outside diamiter soem internal, others just dont know CPC big electric says 1mm is 20awg, where farnell says 18awg is 0.6 mm and ebay says 0.8 is 18awg dafuks this lol.

here i foudn one for electrical hookups and it said 1.2mm i just duno what to do

take this
Diameter or Cross sectional area is the question there probably.
Cross sectional AWG18 is 0.8230mm2.
AWG would be 0.5176mm2.
you may can get 0.75mm2 ? while one number smaller would be easier to work with there is some 0.6Xmm2 i think.

Here's some good connectors as long as it's solid wire. For the stranded I've found 18-20ga vacuum cleaner replacement cords to be just right.

Ampacity is the word you are looking for.

find it confusing lol on fornell i can choose 18awg then chose cross sectional from 0.6 to 1.2 haha
they have the 0.82 on options too next to 0.81 lol, ida thaught the sieze was the bloody size lol,
its like sayin il have a size 9 shoe but i want it size 6 inside and i can even go up to a 11 some how haha.

nvm i guess if i get the 0.75 -0.82 option it will be a match and just accept it bloody hell drivers and shits easier than selecting wire xD
was worrids i didnt wana go to thin, had wires burn out on an old china led and was told it due to the thin wires so thaught building lets stay thick as poss to avoid chinas mistakes
got the same wagos as in the guides the 222 415 5 way or somthing

Just buy the wire in a shop instead of online. Get a couple of foot first for tests and then get the rest. Seriously it's worth it, it also supports your local ironmonger.

I use the AlphaWire brand 18AWG solid hook up which is easy to find with a lot of online electronics retailers and works well in the eb3 regs but should also fit slims too, I like using their mPPE insulated version though it's a little more pricey
