What up green brothers and sisters .. I have done a bit of research of what I guess today is known as " Lung Buster Strains ". The reason this was even brought up was a buddy I have not seen in years I ran into today asked me " Are You Still Growing the " phem extractor "? lol. He was referring to a crazy ass genetic I ran across about 12 years ago that tasted like your were smoking a Christmas Tree but at the point of exhale ...that was FORCED btw lol...Good luck trying to hold that shit in!!! your lungs had a sudden feeling of expansion ( Tickle ) if you will that forced a case of the coughs 
.. This was one of those strains that you could not do a stealth smoke session on unless you could come up with a good reason why everyone that left the room had a sudden cough attack and came back in sweating an red faced. Ohhhh do I remember lol.
Anyway after doing some GOOGLE work ( Didn't have that back when I grew the " Unknown Local Cough Smoke " ) I still have not yet put my finger on what this wonderful strain was created from and where the sought after COUGH Pheno came from. This strain was w/o doubt a Indica dominant as it only grew outdoor in East Coast U.S. to approx 4-5' tall max and finished early - mid October ..maybe sooner some crops. Had the typical fat wide Indica leaves and even a hint of skunk when brushed during veg. I grew this strain for approx 5-6 years outdoors using its own seed stock ( manual pollination ) just to keep the strain going. Everyone loved it and made their own nicknames for it " mostly based around coughing your ass off " .. Which brings me to the turn of this post.......
While doing my research to find the genes of this potent cough monster , I ran into some threads that were so misleading and in general ignorant due to lack of information. 80% of the answers I saw from questions inquiring about " Lung Expansion - Lung Busters - Lung Tickler - Etc ) all marked this off as a " BAD THING " due to over nutes, bad genetics, improper curing , hell more than I can name. That is when I decided to make this thread since every thread I have seen appears to be claiming this wonderful pheno trait is somehow related to bad growing /curing practices, etc. BS!!!!! to be blunt LOL. These people speaking of this " Wonder Cough Weed From the late 80's - Early 90's " were not smoking bad weed what so ever!!! In fact they were smoking some of the finest traits I look for when selecting a quality strain. Remember gotta cough to get off ..LOL .. This pheno gave a new meaning too that and was such an all so good thing .
Now for the sake of argument I do agree that improper curing , toxicity, plain old harsh shit weed can make one cough...Far from what I am speaking about here. This was a well perfected strain that someone obviously took some time into creating ..this was far from " Bunk - Shit " weed , we are talking top shelf shit that would grab your lungs and let everyone in the near vicinity know you and the boys were smoking ..that lung expansion feeling would have every single person in the smoke session doing their damn best not to cough ..we used to tell noobs ..whatever you do don;t cough ..LOL , that was fun . Anyway ol heads that have asked about this COUGH pheno ..do not be fooled from young bucks reading HT for a few years and think they know it all .... There is a pheno that gives that cough sensation and is very prominent in strains such as KK's Strawberry Cough - Headband - XJ12 - Etc , Ect .. So to all who have made posts explaining this " cough weed " .. Your Not ALONE.. and it is NOT bad weed , etc LOL. Some like the smoke of fruit , mint, pina colda, bubble gum , etc , etc ..as do I but I WANT THE PHENO in anything I breed and am still to date hunting the trait down. I like veryone like flavor, but a thick hard to hold in LUNG EXPANDER works well with any flavor.
So with all this said now " ol heads " come on give these young " future cultivators " the benefit of the question without ignorance ..which is all i saw on this topic on several forms. And for the TOP DAWG breeders..PLEASE if anyone knows or has any information on this cough strong pheno effect , please feed me more info . I am damn certin that this trait exists and not because of any growing process ..its a natural trait to certain strains .. I want to isolate this pheno in my life time and cough my ass off with every flavor I work. That potent cough is a good thing ..especially like a old head like me!!! I would rather be blasted with a sweaty forehead and 5 min cough between tokes over the taste of fine wine any day .. Any feedback on strains anyone has smoked that hold true to this trait ..Please feel more than FREE to jump in.. What strains have you smoked that ticked your lungs to the point you had to cough even though you tried your ass off not too ???? Lets it not so stealth smoke , everyone hacking up a lung in a good way , as I always said when that shit was arounf ..It hurts sooooo Good. (BTW) .. A " Friend " ripped me off on the last crop of the strain I am speaking of, rendering it " Extinct " no seed , no return ...
